I've seen him play loads of games for Real Madrid (not this season obviously as he's on the bench) and every England game. :)

Hmm... on the bench most of the time? Not getting much play time? Doesn't that mitigate against him coming back into the team? Could undertsand it if he was playing regularly for Real and being man of the match....

On TV or live?? Because I've just read your "opinions" & I've never read more CACK in all my life.

I went to the World Cup, and Beckham (when actually watching live) was better than both Lampard & Gerrard. He was our biggest threat in terms of setting up goals, and never EVER EVER stopped running.... he turned me from hating the bloke to being a big fan...

Sounds to me like you're a Tabloid lover... "Beckham was shit" blah blah blah.

To me, McLarens 1st England squad was the first picked by Max Clifford, and it's a shame McLaren isn't strong enough to get his GINGER head out of the clouds

He's always had that workrate and the first time I saw him in an England game live I thought exactly the same thing.

The problem these days is that he doesn't do it fast enough any more.

Well done. I couldn't get tickets, so I spent the money on The Daily Star instead.

It's faster than Lampard who jogs around the pitch & really looked like he couldn't give a shit..... I was disgusted by Beckham being dropped. Take the Andorra game for example.... great option to stick on at right-back - no defending to be done, and QUALITY crosser of the ball.

But it's fashionable to be pleased that the best English player of a generation has been dropped 2 years early

For what it's worth...

He seems to have cut his nose off to spite his face in dropping Beckham.

Aftel Lampards performance in the last world cup it should have been him dropped. Lampard rarely rises to the big occasion for club or country.

I can totally agree with the argument for not recalling him but the thing is, with his set pieces we are pretty much guarenteed to score with him in the side....

Perhaps more importantly though, when is McClaren gonna realise Downing is not an international footballer and give Gaz Barry a chance in the absence of Joke Hole?

Okay, take Downing out of the equation (he's shit anyway). Beckham is a much better option that the likes of Wright-Phillips and Pennant (and Lennon IMO). He can bringing a world class midfielder into the squad to replace and young, inexperienced winger be a backward step?

I don't think we've learnt anything from the World Cup disaster at all have we?

We were indescribably appalling throughout the World Cup, and one of the big reasons for this was Beckham's sub-standard performances, and his negative impact on the shape of the team - forcing Lampard and Gerrard together in the middle (round pegs, square holes etc).

Since Beckham was dropped, the performance level of the side has increased dramatically and against the reigning European Champions Greece we produced the most fluent, cohesive, attacking performance I have witnessed from an England side in years (yes I know it was a friendly but didn't we used to be awful in friendlies?), and now people are talking about going back to Beckham, totally destroying the shape of the midfield again and ushering in another two years of utter shite.

It beggars belief, it really does......

No they're not. Not one person has suggested dropping the Hargreaves in the centre / Gerrard on the right formation. Not one. We are discussing whether Beckham should be in the squad, to be available as an option from the bench. Nobody has suggested giving Beckham his old staring place back.

Edit; Except somebody who wants to play him at right back!

SYSTEMS SYSTEMS SYSTEMS.

Can we now ONLY play a holding play, a more attacking midfield player and two out and out wingers of questionable quality?

YES. We were awful at the World Cup because of the SYSTEM. We were awful at the previous European Championships because of the SYSTEM. Round pegs in square holes.

So you think Lampard and Gerrard's form in the world cup was all down to Beckham? I know you aren't THAT thick Sam.

The Greece (2004 champions) game we did play better but they were absolute SHIT (and clearly weren't up for it) and you can't seriously make the Andorra game an example of how cohesive and attacking we are these days. Macedonia we did a job.

How can you possibly conclude that were are better than we were when we haven't played a strong side yet?

Beckham deserves to play for England, afterall he was one of the few that made a positive contribution to actual goals in the world cup!

he made many of the assists and not to mention his excellent free kick against ecuador

No we were awful because we didn't have a holding player and our 'world class' players underperfomed.

Gerrard had a good World Cup, but Lampard was awful, as was Beckham.

The main factor in Lampard's awfulness (in my opinion) was the lack of freedom allowed to him by the midfield formation.

Are you honestly telling me that a guy who scores 20 goals a season from midfield every season, came 3rd in the European player of the year awards, and is the first name on the team sheet of a team that wins every single week, isn't good enough to play well against the likes of Trinidad or Ecuador?

Or maybe, just maybe, the system played at Chelsea in the last few years suits him better than England's system of "lets play four attacking midfielders and hope it works out okay"?
