i think Beckham should come back and see how he does, but its a great loss of Hargreaves, since the Portugal game in the world cup he is a different player, i will never forget how he played his heart out against the portugesse and gained my respect for him

Sorry, but we are talking about a place in the squad, not the starting eleven. Having Beckham around, as well as offering a diffrent type of option from the bench, will be of immense benefit to any young inexperienced midfielder in the squad. Surely a model pro, who has played at the very highest level for 14 years for 2 of the world's biggest clubs, has something that said young player can learn from.

Should we drop the whole team then and give everyone else some experience?

Or we could play Beckham and stand a chance of winning Euro 2008, which we don't do if our team includes nothing players like Pennant and SWP

Beckham can put a good cross in, and he can take a decent set-piece. However, other than that, he contributes little. He never beats his man, he lacks pace (he used to make up for that with his massive energy and workrate, but with age he's lost too much of that). The amount he gives the ball away is ridiculous. He tries to do his hollywood passes only to have them cut out by defenders or caught by the keeper, when he tries to play it on the ground it normally goes sideways or backwards and when it does go forwards defenders read it everytime because he takes to long so pass the ball.

Gerrard playing wide right drags people all over the place, as he can come inside, tuck in, or stay wide. He CAN beat a man and deliver just as good a ball as Beckham. He is like a younger Beckham but a bit better, having Beckham in the squad would be pointless with Gerrard now playing on the right.

Lennon gives us natural width, pace, and wonderful dribbling which scares the hell out of defenders, he is the perfect man to compete with Gerrard for that place. With him out that hands an oppurtunity to Wright-Phillips or Pennant, both very good wingers themselves.

Recalling Beckham would be a pointless backward step. I'd rather see SCHOLES recalled.

Besides, Beckham will be playing in the MLS by the time Euro 2008 comes around.

So we are only going to have 4 midfielders in the squad are we. I would have thought some back up might be useful.

You are wrong as well by the way.

Excluding the injured Hargreaves, Cole and Lennon, name 4 four better midfielders in England than Beckham.

PS. If you type the words Pennant, Downing or Parker don't expect to be taken very seriously ever again.

Who else did you hve in mind? Danny Murphy? Ledley King?

If you're playing the system McLaren likes, there is no place for Beckham out wide

The only option is to play Beckham central. Parker IS better at the holding role - ditto Carrick and King.

For the more forward roles, I'd place Lampard, Gerrard and even Nolan as better players.

Why play him out wide no the right when you can play Cole/Lennon/Wright-Phillips/Pennant - who can beat a man.

The only way back in for Becks is to find a better marauding right back who'll go past him and can beat a man.

Tactically, there is no place for him. - Sad, as undoubtedly he's a superb player - but necessary IMO

I think he's right to leave Beckham out, despite the injuries.

I don't really see why the injury to Hargreaves should affect Beckham anyway, as there is no way Beckham would come in as a replace ment in the middle, and there is no way Gerrard can move into the middle alongside Lampard.

I'm not even talking about in this squad. I'm talking about in general. There is NO way Beckham can be left out of the squad for footballing reasons.

Hands up who would rather have Jenas, SWP or Pennant in the squad ahead of Beckham.....

King is not a holding midfielder. I don't really see why Carrick and Parker are better in that role as neither of them has his work-rate, passing or footballing brain.

Also that's one system and not a desperately promising one at the moment. if we play 5 in the midfield then Beckham is perfect for 4 of those positions. and i'd rather him right-back than Phil Neville

Pennant and SWP, 100%. Jenas can f*** off. But he doesn't play the same position as Beckham (please no one suggest Beckham in the centre :lolol: ).

Why not? He had a VERY successful season playing there for Real Madrid.
Which one was that?

I thought everyone would have realised Beckham is not the player he was and has been a negative for England for at least the last two years.

Pennant has done very little in a liverpool shirt and was poor last season for Birmingham. Beckham was Real Madrid's best player last season and made twice as many goals as anyone else in la Liga

Beckham at right-back ?
What for ? His blistering pace to get forward to support the attacks, or his superb tackling ability ?

He's been alright when not "rotated" or injured, he was excellent last night for example. And to say he was poor for Birmingham is ridiculous. I do not see how you can make such a claim. :nono:
