I don'yt think they really want to sign anyone too badly. If they did they would have done it by now. How can you say one player is excellent(Brittain) one minute and then after one quiet game he's not sure? What are his scouts doing? Where is this supposed money we have for a decent striker? When push comes to shove it's all bollocks, and we can't really compete with any team at all when it comes to players which is strange because the other managers seemed to do ok! Oh yeah, how much did we offer Hull for Burgess to tempt them? I mean if it's only a token gesture of course they will say NO.

I do not understand everyone's problem with McGhee. I believe that the reason fans are not renewing season tickets and that players will not sign for us is the ground. I bought a three year season ticket two years ago with the promise that the third year would be at Falmer. We are now no nearer getting to Falmer than we were then and that affects players and fans. We can no longer promise a great, new future in the short term and, with short careers, players will go to clubs with a good ground who can afford to pay them decent wages.

This is not McGhee's fault unless you decide to blame him for selling the Goldstone which I think some people on here might do.

You do realise that the Burgess thread was a joke. We have no news on whether the offer has been accepted or not as far as I have heard including in your question to insider. He may be discussing terms right now for all we know unless you know different.

Yes just read that but had not seen it before. Had just looked at the insider's answer and not seen anything about the rejection.

Fair point - got my hopes raised tho. :(

It's a damn good article with McGhee in the argus actually - well worth a read over the two pages, covers a lot of points about what he expects from the players he's got and who he wants more from.

Well worth a look

It does not matter what McGhee says, about what he expects from his players. Going by last season, it seems that certain players can play shit all season and know they will never get dropped.
Hes always full of shit, he should have been kicked out by now.
I also think most players won't come here, because they heared what a shit manager he is.

Yes sorry. I am a bit gutted as it sounded like we had a good chance. Personally, I cannot see why Parkinson needs 7 strikers. Is he trying to be the new Neil Warnock?

Guess we will know by sept if he is sitting in the stands.

Jon Parkin maybe worth an ask about?

This is complete rubbish. If McGhee is not being given the resources then that is down to the board who I am a bit worried about for the first time since Knight took over.

As they decided to keep Mark McGhee the money should be there to spend. If they are not happy to give him money to spend, then they should have sacked him in the summer.

Personally, I support McGhee. However, after the fall through of another striker deal, I am a bit nervous about Saturday. We do need that target man.

One day McGhee says he'll bring in 2 or 3 players before Saturday's opener, he's now saying he wants 5 players.

Reading between the lines he's making it plain he's not happy with the squad, and rightly so. The MK Dons game showed that our experienced players just aren't delivering, and unless we have 3 or so wise old heads out there guiding the young lads it could be carnage.

I've seen enough over this summer to realise the club has got serious problems attracting anyone to the club. Sure, we had problems before but Adams, Taylor and Coppell managed to work through them.

McGhee has hit a brick wall over players and it worries me. Maybe prospective players don't want to sign for a club where they think the manager will be gone in 2 or 3 months?

Much more to do the stadium issue rather than McGhee. In the past we were able to attract players because we would argue that Falmer was just 2 or 3 years away. But that was 3 or 4 years ago. Now word is out that we may never get the stadium. Why sign for us when you can sign for some other relatively big clubs with grest stadiums and better wages? Also when we were in this division before there weren't so many "big clubs" to compete with. No Millwall, no Forest, no Swansea, No Donnie etc etc. Make no mistake, this is a tough league. My worry is that realistically nothing will change until we get the green light for Falmer ... and that's going to take a long time or may not ever happen at all. Brace yourselves for another relegation battle.

At the end of the day, will players play / sign for McGhee arguement or wont sign becuase of the ground issue, will only be resolved if MM is replaced. Both arguements could be deemed correct, all the player bust ups, Pavilionaire's good point about players generally being concerned about signing for a club when knowing the manager maybe on his way out all are strong cases for not signing for MM.

But so is Withdean, sure, brighton, a nice city to live in, but a crap venue to perform at. Lets see, play my home games at Millwall or Brighton, Crewe or Brighton.

Withdean isn;t that bad these days , in league 1 it shouldnt matter , potentially still playing in front of 8k + which is bigger than most in this league and players should look at examples of players like virgo , zamora , harding , currie etc to prove if they do well .... opputunities open up

Sure you couldn't, but if other clubs think he's not up to it then wouldn't you be slagging off Mcghee's judgement in 2 months when the player doesn't perform?

Hopefully Magoo won't be here in a couple of months.

Falmer, soon...
Why is MM still here?

I dont' understand how he can do his job with

f*** All money
f*** All talent in the existing squad
f*** All chance of attracting anyone to the club

I don't really understand what's keeping him here to be honest.

Hardest job in professional football, I'd say. Lesser men would have walked by now.

If we can't attract a decent calibre of player, what chance attracting a decent manager? Those in the league of Coppell & Taylor are so far out of our reach it's untrue.
