Happy listening on SCR then. If you want to know who the new players are and how they are playing, just ask :smokin:

Did you go Yesterday?

Who was the new winger we had? Was he Samoan or something like that.

But the players we have currently are not good enough for the system that you hero plays. If he must play 2 wingers, then you need specialist full backs, yet we only have one of these at the club.

We have a certain abundance of centre backs at present, we are leaking goals, so this has to be the first area to look at. Build from the back, shut the opposition out and nick a result. Attacking is not working.

Or a variation on this. Play a defensive block in the games where a point is the most we can hope for and go for the more attacking option in the Millwall and Wendy games ?

That was what we did last year, and most teams had us worked out by February, hence our dreadful run. Playing a defensive system without a targetman to hold the ball up and create would be an especially fruitless exercise too. The teams we face in this division are too good for those negative tacics. And if McGhee did actually ever try them, a chorus of people like you would pop up and lambast him for not being attacking enough and being too defensive.

A great example of that is the lack of credit you give McGhee for trying to tighten up the midfield on Saturday and pretending that the two-winger system cost us the game. With jaundiced critics like you, McGhee can never win.

But I happen to disagree that Frutos was growing in influence in the game. He got little ball and what little he got he wasn't making best use of.

Swapping Hammond and Mayo is an interesting idea but Hammond has actually more experience playing left midfield in recent times than Mayo, and there was always a hope that that role could produce a goal for us (it is Hammond's most productive goal-scoring position). Kerry I though was our best outfield player on Saturday, so I would not have been tempted to move him but keep him in the key position of CM. Did Hammond play really well when he came on? Probably not, but Crewe were in their groove by then and he tried his hardest when we going backwards most of the time, harsh to blame the fluke goal on him, that was more down to Lynch's unfortunate slip if you want to search backwards for the space he was allowed.

Mayo was I think our best player on Saturday but Hammond is not a winger, his best work comes in the middle (I can't remember him crossing when I have seen him this season) and he was poor when he came on. Personally, I would have left things as they were as frutos had woken up from his 1st half slumber.

On a seperate point do you think 5-3-2 is worth a go given we have 5 good centre backs? If we did this it would stop the problem of 4 CB's playing (2 at FB), none of whom who can pass particularly well, meaning our wingers are left to beat half a team to get a cross in (all opposition seem to double up on our wingers and leave the FB to it). This way we aren't left with El Abd and Lynch having to cross the ball.

Have you written something? I'll try and find it, although I'm wasting enough of my afternoon on here as it is :lolol:

But is it too late in the season for that now. Playing like that is more likely to see us draw than win and we are at a stage where we need wins. We should have started the season that way in order to build some kind of platform to push on from.

If you frustrate teams they will make mistakes and the best way for a team lacking in real quality to frustrate a side is to kill the game. If you look 3 years ago in this league we played 5 at the back and we did get results and with the players we have I still think this is the best system.

At the end of the day, the tactics that your demi god is employing are fruitless as we keep losing, so it is time to go back to a basic game of shuting things up and nicking a goal.

I don't think it's the systems that are the problem. Would El Abd have performed his marking duties at that corner on Saturday any more diligently if you had started him at CB rather than RB? Alas, it was an error by a player - no system can overcome that, I'm afraid :(

I think under the 4-4-2 we at least have the attacking impetus of the wingers. Sacrificing them in a 5-3-2 could well result in even losing that good feature of our play and us being left with very little to offer. McGhee has no problem in switching between 5-3-2 and 4-4-2, he has done it plenty of times before, but I think it would create real problems for Carole and Frutos. That's why I think he hasn't done it.

Steve there is limited good from our wing play as we have lost the last 5 games, have only won 5 all season employing this system and we cannot score anyway.

No point having a banner but no problem with people sounding off on here.

Better on here then at games.

We have no full backs so the sensible thing would clearly be to try three centre backs.

And that would have stopped Crewe's second goal, how?
