Grand scheming from McGhee...Williamson is obviously a liability, so let's keep him in his job for as long as possible, and help Plymouth cement one of those relegation spots....

[From the Plymouth Herald]

Brighton boss Mark McGhee has come to the defence of under-fire Argyle manager Bobby Williamson. McGhee insisted he had 'absolutely no doubts' the Pilgrims would stay in the Championship under the leadership of his Scottish compatriot.

He also described calls for the dismissal of Williamsom, only six games into the season, as 'absolutely ludicrous'.

McGhee said: "Last season they (Argyle) did terrifically well. They came up with us and finished way ahead of us. They were comfortably in the division.

"I have got absolutely no doubts that the very worst that's going to happen to them this season is the same.

"They are a good team and a strong squad and they will start winning games. As long as Bobby stays, he will take them onto that.

"I have got no doubts about him (Williamson) and I have got no doubts about them as a squad that they will be difficult for other teams to beat."

Brighton picked up their first win of the season with their convincing victory over Argyle, having put in a decent performance when they drew 0-0 at Preston North End on Saturday.

McGhee said: "It was the wrong time for them (Argyle) to come here because we have been getting better. We were due a win.

"They have had to travel five-and-a-half hours here after a week where they have had three other games in eight days, like ourselves.

"It's a difficult week for everyone and it has caught up with them a little bit.

"But they are a strong team and I think that, possibly, we played them at the right time and they will start winning games."

The pace of Brighton's two strikers, Leon Knight and Jake Robinson, combined with that of wide midfielders Sebastien Carole and Albert Jarrett, constantly troubled Argyle.

McGhee said: "That's why we stuck with that team, because we felt we had to give ourselves a chance of winning the game.

"We have been a bit stodgy and although we have passed the ball well in the games we have played we have not been enough of a threat.

"So we have gone with players with pace today, to give ourselves more of a goal threat, and it has worked for us."

Brighton's win lifted them above Argyle and into 16th position in the Championship table.

McGhee said: "Given our difficultly in getting points previously, although we were playing quite well, we are absolutely thrilled to go into this international break with six points from six games."

Last August Bank Holiday weekend we got rid of the Preston manager. We will surely claim another scalp from the "with due respect to Brighton" teams soon :D
