McGHEE SETS SEAGULLS POINTS TARGET

Brighton manger Mark McGhee has set his team a target of 49 points for Championship survival.

The Seagulls have collected 29 points from their 26 matches so far and McGhee believes a further 20 will be enough to secure safety after a 1-1 draw with former club Wolves.

Ex-Millwall boss Mcghee said "If we get a point a game, we will be in this division again next year."

.........................................................................................................

Do you think 49 points will be enough? I think we need at least 52 to be absolutely certain.

Looked at the table after yesterdays game and reckoned that 50 would be enough to see us safe, should have a better idea after the next couple of games, depending on what those around us do. I don't reckon that it is an unrealistic target to set but we must win the home games against Watford and Forest for starters, if we can do that and pick up points against the likes of Coventry and Rotherham away then it would make looking for the remaining points a lot easier and a lower mid-table finish a distinct possibility.

It's 29 points from 26 matches, so McGhee's saying a point a game from our last 20 games will be enough.

I reckon 51 is minimum myself and we will be there with around 3 / 4 games to spare.

I think we will end up with about 53 or 54 but think 50 will do.

:lolol: At the risk of boring everyone here are the records of the team who finished 22nd in what is currently the championship over the past 10 seasons.
Pts
94/95 Burnley 46
95/96 Millwall 52
96/97 Grimsby 46
97/98 Manchester C 48
98/99 Bury 47
99/00 Walsall 46
00/01 Huddersfield 48
01/02 Crewe 49
02/03 Sheffield W 46
03/04 Walsall 51

So unless we are extremely unlucky, 50 pts should do it.
Another point in our favour is that unlike two seasons ago when we only won 5 pts from the 4 teams around us, in contrast we have already won 13 pts so far. Staying up ? Not in doubt! :clap2: :bounce:

It makes a change to have some statistical accuracy on this board. Welcome gollum.
Being gloomy I still reckon that 52 are needed as Forest could revive. Look how strongly Stoke and Wednesday finished 2 years ago.

I think 50 points will do it. I really can't see Forest reviving. They're having a wretched run thye have an inexperienced manager, and Reid, who's their best player wants out.

I can Gillingham reviving however. They have a manager who knows what he's doing.

There's nearly always a team outside the bottom three or four who gets dragged into it - let's hope it's not us.

i think it would be realistic to think that one side currently in bottom 3 or 4 will get there act together and do an escape act. i agree that it may be gillingham for the reason stated by gwylan. reckon 50 a good and safe target. as for a team to get dragged into it my bet is on watford. they will get beaten by millwall then brighton and by the time webber gets back they will be feeling the strain...

Got a funny feeling that Coventry could be sucked into the mire, along with Watford. If we keep playing like we did against Wolves we shouldn't have too much of a problem

yes they have looked decidedly dodgy of late, bit of a freefall.

I reckon 52. Rotherham are doomed and Gillingham will probably go too but I wouldnt be surprised if Forest and Cardiff won a lot of home games in the second half of the season. Cardiff is going to be like WW3.

I don't think the Gills are quite as doomed as some think. They have some good players and Ternent will shake it up there. We should hope Forest appoint Harford, he's already 'the players' choice' (ie their mate, and doomed to failure) rather than a new man, and Cardiff as was said will win some home games.

Rotherham are the only really doomed team.
