Mark McCammon feels Doncaster can improve on their early season form and challenge for honours in League One.

Fancied for promotion by some after narrowly missing the play-offs last season, Rovers have only scored in two of their first five league fixtures.

But striker McCammon told BBC Sport: "I don't think there's a problem there. We're creating chances, the ball's just not going in at the moment.

"I think if we can keep our heads up, I'm sure we'll bounce back."

He added: "Against Rochdale in the Carling Cup I had a lot of chances, I got two goals and everything went my way.

"But against Bournemouth, I had about three or four chances which didn't go in so you've just got to work your socks off.

"Sometimes the game doesn't go your way, but if you work as a unit, good things will happen."

McCammon has started Rovers' last three games since moving from Brighton in the summer, but is confident that Dave Penney's battery of strikers has the firepower to lift them up the table.

Born: Barnet, 7.8.1978
Position: Striker
1997-1999: Cambridge Utd
1999-2000: Charlton
2000: Swindon (loan)
2000-2003: Brentford
2003-2005: Millwall
2004-2005: Brighton (loan)
2005-2006: Brighton
2006: Bristol City (loan)
2006-date: Doncaster
"You need depth in your squad to get promotion, and we've had Bruce Dyer and Paul Heffernan out injured," the 28-year-old explained.

"Paul's just coming back - he's a good, established striker that always gets goals, but Lewis Guy's come in and scored against Bournemouth."

Against the Cherries, Penney was also able to call upon two other forwards - debutant Michele Di Piedi and pacy Sheffield United loanee Jonathan Forte - from the bench.

But McCammon is not daunted by the competition for places in attack - and is grateful for the opportunity of regular football, after a disappointing 2005/06 campaign at Brighton.

After missing much of the early part of the season with injury, McCammon clashed publicly with manager Mark McGhee, and ended the campaign out on loan at Bristol City.

But after impressing Penney on trial, he earned a permanent move to Doncaster in what will be their last few months at Belle Vue before they move to their new stadium in December.

"I'm glad the gaffer here has given me a chance," McCammon said.

"But I don't think I'm at my 100% capability yet, and it may take another three or four games for people to see the best of me.

"I played at Bristol City last season, and it's about the same standard here.

Paul Heffernan and Jonathan Forte

"But if we can get our heads down, get some goals and keep clean sheets and keep our concentration high, we can do well.

"There's a big buzz about the new stadium - every time I've spoken to supporters, it's all they talk about, and the club appears to be heading in the right direction.

"And without ambition, there's no point in playing football."

Barnet-born McCammon - to his own surprise - is also enjoying life in south Yorkshire - despite his seven previous clubs all hailing from the south.

"There's a good bunch of lads here with a good attitude," he said.

"They've made me feel welcome, as it's a much different environment and a different lifestyle up here compared to living in London.

"But I'm enjoying it, and I didn't expect to enjoy it so much - I thought I'd be homesick by now!

"I've settled in quite well, I've got my own place up here now, so I'm looking forward to getting more games under my belt - and hopefully more goals."

the reason why i tipped doncaster for promotion was the fact that they have so many good strikers. the rest of the team is also very strong. personally i dont think mccammon will get a sniff when others are fit. their new stadium also looks very nice. if not finished yet.

I hope when we play Doncaster away in december they are still at the Belle Vue (is that it???) cos they away fans are in a TERRACE. Is there a chance that their last game at their old ground will be against us? I fancy tearing up some seats.
