Number 14 didn't get used competitively until the 87-88 season.

What looked out of place was the number 14 on the front of the shirt. The shirt could have been worn in a friendly with no restrictions on substitutions I guess. I've been to friendlies and testimonials at the Goldstone and know that several subs were allowed (usually on for the 2nd half) but cannot remember for instance if the squad numbers were from 1 up to 20 or so.

I believe the shirt to be real.

No one would make a fake shirt, going to the trouble of getting the important details to match old photos, and then stick a totally unnecessary No 14 on the front of the shirt.

I wonder what the arrangement was with numbers as Peter Ward wore number 31 in training prior to the Derby game in the League Cup in 1976/77.
1-11 and possibly 12-22 I can get, but 31?!

The seller certainly seems bona fide, others on here on another thread have said they believe it to be right, in fact did JCFG say he used to own that shirt? As for the badge positions, there are plenty of photos on the listing showing players in shirts with the badges in the same position. As for the numbers, as you can see above, number 14 was used. Cant really see someone going to that much effort for a fake, when it is clearly the sellers business. I have not seen one of these shirts for many many years, so not really in a position to confirm, but I beleive it is genuine from the information I can glean from the listing and from books and stuff I have,

Good post from someone who knows his stuff. If you had the actual shirt in your hands (or were slim enough to fit into it!) you would know it is 100 percent authentic. Broke my heart parting with it:cry:

That and the fact that the seller listed the shirt, then it was removed, then listed it again with all the photos, I am certain it is real, shame it's so much money :(
