I'd be astonished if he went to Wigan. He doesn't need the money and promotion again with us on his CV would look miles better than a season treading water at Wigan, never mind their soul destroying two bob support.

What he said.

Gus is thinking long term with us, and I genuinely believe it'll take lot more than Wigan to take him away.

With the situation this club is in and the direction its going in, there is a chance that a serious managerial reputation can be built here over the next few years, and I believe Gus is smart enough to want to be the one who builds it.

Its a small town and not really a football town even though there a prem club, really cant see it appealing to Gus. I think Wigan have gone as far as they can and i can see them being relegated next season.
It just doesnt seem to be a club or town that matches Gus's personality, He has never left the south east of England since he has been here and i dont think he intends to, it will be us or a London club. Im glad a club like Fulham are not currently manager hunting.
Plus as mentioned Gus and TB have sat down, agreed budgets, highlighted targets and sorted prices and contracts and are now ready to move for these targets. I dont think this would have been done if Gus was going to leave in 2 weeks....im sure TB would have made that clear.

Because Dave Whelan has said Martinez has been offered the Liverpool job doesn't mean he actually has. Whelan is full of shit half the time, as well as being the most indiscreet man in football. He loves the sound of his own voice even more than Redknapp.

One thing that needs to be said is that if Gus goes to a Premier league club he will want to change the way his players play. This may be fine with our 3rd Division players as we were then but may not go down well with established, dyed in the wool current internationals. He may be a great manager in the making but everybody needs the players on board and that may not be the case especially with a novice manager.

I think Poyet would go to any premier league club given the chance if I'm honest.

I would agree with that.

He would love to match himself against other Premier League managers week in, week out. If his project failed he is still a multi millionaire so no great loss to himself except a bit of professional pride.

I wonder if any Premier League club would consider him at this stage of his career though. He hasn't really achieved much in the grand scheme of things to date.

Would be interesting if he was given a straight choice between staying or going.

The more I think about it I cant see Dave Whelen wanting Gus for one second. No real experience in Prem football, no link to the club like Martinez, and an Ego I just cant see him wanting to deal with. Gus is very Un-Wiganlike.

The next manager of Liverpool will start with the handicap that he is not King Kenny, despite the poor performance and lowest position in the league for many seasons.
The references concerning Brighton`s style of play being similar to Swansea ignores the fact that a number of our players were from the lower leagues and are unable to keep possesion unless they are passing the ball sideways in their own half at walking pace, which gives few opportunities to our strikers, this should result in keeping our place in the Championship which is a level we can be comfortable in.

Try listening to SSN and the radio where they are saying Martinez is the wrong man for the job and he hasn't even got it yet

dont think thats the "Dalglish mob", just any Liverpool fan who was expecting a manager to take them forward, to challenge for the top 4. i like Martinez, he might do it, but i certainly dont think on current form one can expect he's anything better than a mid table manager.

The Villa fans seem to be the biggest whingers, possible with West Ham fans.

They've seen off either at interview stage, or after appointment:
O'Leary, Houliier, McLaren, McLeish, and even O'Neill took a verbal battering for his weakened away Europa Cup team, direct tactics, and only ever playing the same 11.

Moreover, Lerner resents subsidising them any further.

All in all, Gus would be mad to take that job.

A bitter post:
Not by any chance still seething that they dumped us out of both cups, despite the Southern hype beforehand that a shock on the cards.

So when a club falls out of CL places, does that make them not big overnight, in your eyes, despite:
A vast following, still big income, and a mass of silverware over the last 11 years.

If Martinez leaves, he wont last long at Liverpool as their fans will want him out, even if - for example - the team is in 5th place. Will probably also mean Wigan will be relegated next season too.

Liverpool arent the club they once were, but a lot of their fans still think they are one of the biggest in the world. Some dont even think Kenny should have gone, despite the fact they finished 8th - under Everton. If it was any other manager, they would have been gone a long time before.

Dave Whelan talks too much. He's like a fat Nostradamus. I like Martinez, he did great at Swansea and keeping Wigan in the league three seasons running is nigh on a miracle. I know a few Liverpool fans who are tweeting its Rafa or no one, I doubt FSG will be looking in that direct.
