Well that's the one manager I'd have liked instead of Gus!

I'm not necessaily disagreeing, but why ? Yes, seems like a nice bloke, and I guess he won the cup, but his record at Wigan was worse than his 2 predecessors and he took them down with a poor display. Would prefer him to many names mentioned but am struggling to justify it - not that it's going to happen now, and I don't think it was ever likely

No more money? Have u taken the small matter of parachute payments into account?

We are a better proposition long term but short term, Poyet could get Wigan up and move on to a bigger side in the Prem. he's burnt his bridges here, so we are not an option for him.

No more money? What about the £18m (?) parachute payment?

Parachute payments aren't just free money available to splash around on new players - it is there for a reason, to cover premier league wage bills. Wigan, having been in the prem for many years, will have premier league wages throughout their set-up.

Don't forget Pompey were getting parachute payments whilst going into admin and sliding down into league 1.

In other words, allowing them to keep players who are 'premiership quality' in the Championship. Parachute payments are so much larger than when Pompey got them - its because of Pompey, etc... That they have brought them in.

They'll do alright next year.

Admittedly, Wigan have some good players but don't forget, they were, as a team, only good enough to be relegated last year.

Yes, some premier league quality. The hope is that they'll also have some high earning turkeys who cannot be shifted, and eat up the parachute payments.

Parachute payments didn't help Wolves.

If they were premiership quality then they wouldn't have been relegated. The players they have are by definition championship quality, but on premier league contracts that need to be honoured over the next 1-3 seasons.
