To my mind the worst commentator of the lot. He just seems to talk his way through matches as though he's talking to his next door neighbour

He's not as good as he used to be but I find Drury and Tyldesley so bad they can make me switch off a game.

Motson is a bit too much of a "Crazy Motty" caricature now as well.

Tyler is the best commentator out there. (IMO of course!)

Don't agree, he's the best commentator in the business IMO.

Well said , Gents. Best commentator in the game. He sounds like he's a bit bored though. There was a game last week, or the week before, where he was really criticising the standard of football on display. I like that though, a little bit of cynicism. Not all games are good games, some of them stink and I don't like people who pretend everything is brilliant even when it's crap. Martin Tyler is fantastic.

Nope but none of them are even fit enough to polish Barry Davies shoes

It's extremely difficult. I'm a complete bore and I can't generally recognise players from every club, certainly in the Premier League. I saw the Barcelona vs Chelsea game without commentary, but with the atmosphere from the stands so I thought... how hard can it be? Barcelona's players are very recognisable, so are Chelsea's and I can generally natter on. I was very quickly out of interesting things to say, and that's even setting the bar pretty low.

Can't stand any of them, I want to watch the game not listen to them drone on and on, if I want to just listen I'd have the radio on. Will they please just give it a rest with the constant jabble.

If we're talking "commentators" in general, Alan Green is hands down the worst across Radio/TV!

I always feel the Alan Green must have some photos of the BBC sports director shafting a dead donkey! I cannot fathom any other way how is still be employed to commentate.

Maybe it's been done but should be worth a couple of polls. Best and worst commentators.. I can't be arsed to research them all though!

Some of the co-commentators really get on my tits including Jim Beglin and, before he was sacked big Ron.

The only Sky Sports main commentator I don't really rate is Alan Parry, just because he uses way too many cliches. Otherwise on the whole I'd say Sky Sports have the best ones.

They have the best co-commentators too, Gary Neville has been excellent this season (strange Torres Barca goal noise aside) and I never thought I'd like him.

YouTube some old BBC games and you realise how much Barry Davis' masterful and spare commentary enhanced football on tv; he became a PART of the experience rather than dividing opinion with inanities that seem to be de rigeur these days. Martin Tyler, Clive Tildsley etc will never learn :(
