Girlfriend bought their album The Family Jewels today. Had a listen earlier, and was WELL impressed.

Anyone else heard it?

Saw her in Shoreditch a while back, a little strange but an interesting sound and she's pretty fit. Her single Hollywood is pretty catchy if a little odd.

I've never heard Marina and the Diamonds but I'm sure there must be a few Nscers that were there..

This years Florence methinks, not quite as good but good value anyway, looks better that Florence which is a tall order.

A better album that was released on Monday- Lightspeed Champion's new one.
Absolute quality.

I've only heard a couple of songs but it sounded like a female-fronted Razorlight without the vague sense of catchiness in the song.

Which isn't a good thing

Saw her/them perform the single on Jonathan Ross a couple of Fridays ago, and initially thought 'Oh no, just what the world doesn't need, another quirky female synth-pop singer' (Little Boots, Lady Gaga, etc).

Have to confess though, 'Hollywood' is brilliantly catchy and I can't stop humming it. Love the line: 'Oh my God, you look just like Shakira, or is it Catherine Zeta. Actually, my name's Marina'.

Maybe she'll be a One Hit Wonder, forgotten about by this time next year, but 'Hollywood' is absolutely brilliant.

Ironic. I really can't understand what the obsession with America is. These performers can't really sing that well, so they concoct/impersonate a mid Atlantic accent to hide the fact they can't make all the notes. Then they sing obsessively about a country and lifestyle that is at best irrelevant to us, at worst unatainable. I know pop music is about fads and trends, but this sort of pap is just so tiresome now.

saw her at the concored at some nme tour at the back end of 2009 with a few other bands, she wore a cat suite so tight it you could see her fanny, she is stunning, as for her music not a fan, but well worth checking out.
