Reading through some of the threads on here there seems to be an awful lot that think he won't cut it in the championship, I think he's one of our best players and is more than good enough. so what's your opinion ....

Wasn't the problem there that he just never broke back into the team after an injury? Anyway, full back is a funny position because there's only one place - that might sound silly but midfielders or strikers will get many more chances to break into teams.

I think he is probably the most Championship ready player in our squad - in that he's really solid and consistent - whereas with other players their different styles might get found out in a higher division.

Undecided , he might get torn to shreds up against Championship players if he ventures too far up field but will be ok at the back.

I recall a Swans fan on here saying they thought Marcos could cut it in the Prem...

I think that defensivly he will be ok no problem. Where we may struggle is not having a great left midfielder to get forward and also to get back and help him out if needed.

Nope. He is too slow and has limited ability going forward. The quality of the wingers in the championship with the likes of sinclair, taarabt and bellamy will have a field day playing against him

Wow. Nobody has ever been so wrong in one post.

Painter should be POTS in my opinion. You and Hustpier are wrong. It might be an opinion but you're still wrong.

I think he can definitely handle Championship football. His been our more consistent player of the season, I cannot recall him ever having a poor match.

Utter gubbins. Too slow ? How many times have we seen Painter getting skinned or trailing in the wake of anyone this season ? I think I could count on one finger. He is positionally sound, supports the attack, and is capable of putting a decent ball in as well. He is a solid 7-8 out of 10 EVERY week, and I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to step up.

But being dependable in League One is one thing, the level of football in the championship is far higher than that of League One. You say he has not been left for dead by anyone this season, Poyet said himself that at the Plymouth game Noone had the beating of him all first half.

The wingers in your average League One team are nothing compared to those in the Championship. Painters main problem is his lack of pace. He was originally a centre back, but because of his lack of height and strength was unable to succeed at the higher level in this position. Left back is not his natural position and yes he can put in a solid cross going forward but when you compare his flair going forward to that of Calderon, there is no competition

He is a quality League One left back, no doubt, and has arguably been our most consistent performer this year, along with El-Abd. However his lack of pace may cause problems in the Championship - in this division his terrific positional sense makes up for that but I think against quicker, sharper wingers it could become more of an issue.

I still think he is good enough for the Championship, however.

Despite the points ive made above. Painter has been our best left back for years and it has been a troublesome position for us. It really does depend how far we want to go next season. If were happy to finish above 22nd then Painter could do a job for us but if we want to push for midtable and top 10 then I do feel we need someone who has the ability to go forward and defend effectively

Spouting more shit eh.
It seems you're happy to take any oppurtunity to knock our players on here. He was very well regarded at Swansea, was first choice left back until his injury kept him out, when they brought in a replacement he was no longer first choice. I say he's more than
