Totally agree. This is a huge achievement for a club like Leeds. Unbelievable they managed to get promoted from the 2nd division. What next? Celtic winning the SPL?

Its not really comparable is it? Celtic wins every year, Leeds get promoted pretty rarely.

As far as I know they have a cycle where they spend shit loads of money, have a few good years, turn out to be broke and then lurk in lower division for 10-15 years before going up, spending all their money, have a few years, go broke, get relegated etc...

Marcelo Bielsa - is he the Messiah?

No, he just trains up his players within an inch of their lives, gets them to close the opposition down all over the pitch and relies on an ageing Spaniard to provide the skill. Nothing new there.

Leeds are a really big club, with a massive reach in their county. We’re small beer in comparison.

True, but we're not quite the level of small beer that they think we are though. Average gates in the 7 years since Amex was expanded have been almost identical to those of Leeds:

Year Leeds
2019 34.033
2018 31.525
2017 27.698
2016 22.446
2015 24.052
2014 25.088
2013 21.572

Year Albion
2019 30.426
2018 30.403
2017 27.996
2016 25.583
2015 25.645
2014 27.283
2013 26.236

Obviously average gates is only one measure of size and Leeds have a massive global reach, but we're not a particularly small club these days. We're more-or-less on a par with Southampton and Leicester - or will be if we ever win a trophy or two (big if).

oh - and he likes to spy on the opposition in training so he knows how they're going to play.

You weren’t a Leeds fan when you were young were you? You know, your second team in the top division

He's had an interesting carrier did well in Argintina and fairly well for the national team much the same for Chilli very poor with his short stints at In France and Italy obviously did very well getting Leeds up but will he shine in the Premiership without White only time will tell

He spent two days in Italy... a bit too short to call it "very poor".

The man is a genius, every single player he’s worked with he’s improved ten fold. The same Leeds squad bar Bamford and Costsa finished 13th the season before he arrived, Leeds spent just 4 weeks outside the top two in the following two championship seasons after that. Listen to what Pep says about him here.

Also just this week...

Pep said pretty much the same about Potter and was very complementary about Hughton too so that just says that he is nice and polite.

Read into whatever you want but you and your fellow fans are in for a shock when you learn how hard it is to survive in this league.

I’m not disputing any of that. But Leeds are a far bigger club than Saints or Leicester. I’m not talking gates, I’m talking about the intangibles that followers of the game use to rank clubs.

They won the Championship but as I read it, they got exactly the same number of points, WD&L as we did in 16/17, so not that remarkable.

I call it a season of seasons not because of the points total, but the whole buzz around their club in the last couple of years. More so than say Wolves in the past few years. Good luck to them. It doesn’t last for ever, and it’s easy to get over-excited when you’re in it, but that’s ok.

Not being funny, but I was hardly expecting them to come out and say how shit he is as a manager.

True. And their points total was enough to finish as Champions, ten points clear. Whereas for us, it was only enough for second place.

I'm only at the very marginal end of being a football hipster but Bielsa going to Leeds was a genuinely exciting event for me.
Of all the teams promoted I do think they have the best chance of finishing surprisingly high up (10-12). More than likely scrapping down the bottom though.
I think Bielsa's reputation may actually count against him next season, because while he may be no better than say the excellent Chris Wilder he is a legend among coaches and they will all be looking ahead to the showdown with him.

No more a messiah than Poyet or Hughton were for us at one time.

I have to confess that there was a time as we were charging towards the League One title when I did think Gus was the Messiah. I guess that was because the magic of his time at Leeds stayed with him for a while

Why are we obsessing with tin pot Leeds who won something years ago ??? A side we played in a league game at Withers in league 1 says it all about them.

The best thing about Leeds is I believe we have beaten them more times than anyone else in the Amex era.
