Did anyone else see the aforementioned players antics at the Stoke vs QPR game on saturday? A free kick was awarded for QPR so Bircham tried to wrestle the ball out of Gerry Taggarts (Stoke defender) hands. Taggart swept his arm back and bumped Birchams face. Bircham then went down clutching his face and writhing around on the floor in agony. Referee sends Taggart off for violent conduct and all hell breaks loose. Nearly every Stoke player tried to get Bircham, I think Akinbiyi caught him with a punch, and Taggart nearly chinned him as well.

It all kicked off again as the two teams went into the tunnel for the half time break and the Police had to intervene to break it up. When Bircham was subbed in the second half he couldn't go and sit on the bench because of its close proximity to Stoke supporters. He had to be escorted off to the tunnel whilst being pelted with bottles and various other objects.

After the game it all kicked off between QPR and Stoke fans with riot police being called in to break it up. Apparantly a small kid got belted over the head by a coppers truncheon which has enraged the Stoke fans even more. Now there's all sorts of talk of Stoke fans getting "revenge" on QPR and Bircham at the return fixture. All because of one players cheating. I know that Leon has a well deserved reputation for histrionics but I don't think he's managed to get a player sent off by feigning injury.

I have to say that i've always thought that Bircham looked like a bit of a cock, mainly down to that haircut of his, but his simulation at that Stoke game was appalling. I hate seeing Leon do it (and I think he's cut down on it a lot since last season) but even Leon hasn't managed to stir up such bad blood.

In fairness to Bircham, he left the ground with a swollen cut lip from the incident with Taggart, so I don't think it was completely simulation.

But he probably overreacted and milked it to the full. It never ceases to amaze me the sudden and complete agony supposedly fully grown adult men are engulfed in from the most innocuous of contacts on a football field.

The thing that gets me about it is that a football pitch seems to be the only place where this kind of behaviour is "acceptable" for a man.

Can you imagine pulling a stunt like that on a night out with your mates? Someone pushes in front of you in the queue for a burger and you go down clutching your face and rolling around in "agony"?

You'd be laughed out of the place.

Absolutely.

I wish Soccer AM would bring back that section they used to do, where a player would go down clutching his knee/ankle/face or whatever, and within seconds be up and running like normal again. I think they played kind of Rock Gospel 'hallelujah' type music to it. Hilarious for us, humiliating for the cheat.

Didn't Kerry Mayo get Terrell Forbes sent off despite the fact that Forbes never made contact with him?

Just an observation.

Maybe Mayo doesn't like sex offenders.

Taggart raised his arm and did make contact. You can't do that and not get sent off.
Bircham is a cocker and made the most of it, but rules is rules and Taggart had to go.

I must admit I thought that the Ginger Prince admitted that there was no contact made and that he fell to the ground in an attempt to get Forbs punished for 'attempting' to nut him.

Anyone else remember this?
