i dont get it. if you are so upset by the situation at ManU you feel the need to buy an new scarf/strip in the Green and Gold, why not instead vote with your feet and not go at all ???

anyone serious would support the AFC Manchester or whatever club and build that up, but seems in keeping with their plastic nature, they want the glory and top flight football, they dont really give a toss about the owner.

I think their campaign slogan says everything to answer this thread.
"Hate Glazer. Love United".

How hypocritical would it be to claim to love a club you then boycott? It's not appropriate in this case, and wouldn't get a damn thing done. You can't organise that many people. 70,000 fans will not all do the same thing and stay outside, it won't happen. It's not possible on that scale. It wouldn't achieve anything positive, so why do it?

If you listen to the Guardian Football Weekly podcast, Barry Glendenning has been making the same point for the last few weeks.

The commentator today said that there had been a plan to boycott the first ten minutes, but it had been cancelled. Boycott the FIRST TEN MINUTES? That's not a boycott, that's a slight delay on the bus.

The next protest will presumably be tutting loudly or sighing in an exasperated sort of way.

Forward to the revolution, comrades!

Lucky for us that Albion fans weren't saying that back in '96.

Mansfield?

I find it a shame you edit my post to suit the point you wanted to make there. Man Utd are a completely different kettle of fish. You can't scare the Glazers (they're probably not even in the country!). At lower levels, boycotts can actually make a difference and support the stand you're making, because they're easier to organise. How can you organise 70,000 people to all do the same thing? You can't, some fans won't pay any attention.

And, again, why boycott the match? They've travelled a long way to see that match and spent alot of money for the priviledge, you don't do that to then not watch the match and why should you miss a Champions League match for the sake of making a weak, and instantly forgotten, point? You're cutting your nose off to spite your face, if you do.

maybe you miss the point. why do they hate Glazer? whats he done *wrong*? the club is still in top two of EPL, Fergie has the player he wants (ok maybe a not all he want but dont hear him complain). because he's making money from them? one way to solve that. there is a core movement that has started a new club in protest, but all these fans seem happy to carry on lining the Glazers pockets.

i'll chuckle when green and gold is the away kit.

So they show they are not happy but continue to support the team on the pitch. Isn't that the idea?

I find the whole think hypocritical to be honest with you.

Where were these protestors when Man Utd formed an oligopoly and abused their position to rake in millions upon millions that have funded their meteoric rise? Where were the protestors against 'modern day football' when Man Utd were at the forefront of ensuring that home teams received 100% of gate receipts?

Where were the protestors when Man Utd were using their position to cherry pick players from all over the country and splash out record sums for players? Where were the 'green and gold army' when they established themselves as a no. 1 brand by becoming a PLC?

They're actually protesting about Utd NOT being a plc. They know that glazer is raping the club of money and has saddled it with debt, and will leave it with that debt. They knew it before he came there, check out the protests when the glazers first came to the club.

I find it hypocritical that after all we went through to remove an unpopular chairman, people are having a go at utd fans for doing the same thing.

That said, had you put "where were the green and gold army in moscow when they won the champoins league" you may have had a point.

The thing is, it's being a PLC that let the Glazers in in the first place. They seem unaware that they can't have it both ways, and, as others have pointed out, they weren't protesting when being a PLC led to them dominating English football for much of the last 20 years.

and some of those against glazer have made a genuine stand. i dont realy see the parallels with our history, Glazer isnt trying to asset strip the club (no, he really isnt, he's just taking money off a money printing machine he brought).

as for last point, thats sort of what im asking too. i wonder how many buying the green and gold even knew that ManU wasnt always red.

I know he's not asset stripping the club.

To use your analogy, he hasn't bought the money printing machine, he borrowed money which the money printing machine now owes to the banks, only it's not printing enough money anymore and cirtainly not while the glazers are still taking money for themselves. He will sell the money printing machine for a massive profit leaving the printing machine with his debt. Sooner or later it will go tits up.

I don't want to get into a moral argument about right and wrong, but I understand that Utd fans might be a bit pissed of that this is happening and respect that they're trying to do something about it, however futile.

What he said. They voted for this, this was what they wanted, this is how they became what they are now and why football is what it is now. You reap what you sow.

Quite. Like boycotting the last 10 minutes at home to Hereford.

Irrespective of what their gripe is, I get the feeling they're using some aspects of our protests for theirs. They're just not very good at it.
