Leicester set to confirm Pearson

Pearson helped Saints to beat the drop - at Leicester's expense
Nigel Pearson is expected to be named as the news manager of Leicester City at a news conference on Friday.

The Foxes have been without a manager since Ian Holloway left by mutual consent at the end of last season.

Pearson recently split with Southampton after they only avoided relegation from the Championship on the final day of the season, sending Leicester down.

The former Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday captain, 44, is a former assistant manager of Newcastle.

He was brought to St James's Park in 2006 by then-manager Glenn Roeder, and remained there throughout Sam Allardyce's brief reign.

Pearson's previous roles include a stint as assistant manager at West Bromwich Albion, and taking charge of the England Under-21s for their 3-3 draw with Italy last year.

He takes over at a club now preparing for their first season outside of the country's top two divisions for the first time in their history.

Pearson will become the club's sixth manager since chairman Milan Mandaric took charge 16 months ago.

He will follow Rob Kelly, Nigel Worthington, Martin Allen, Gary Megson and Holloway.

Northern Ireland boss Worthington had again been linked to the post, along with the likes of John Gregory, Simon Grayson and Paul Lambert.

Mandaric had been keen to speak to MK Dons manager Paul Ince but the former England midfielder is now being heavily linked with Blackburn.

Will be another one facing the Mandaric chopping block very soon!!

Just goes to show you that no manager with a good track record will want to work for Mandaric.

The only person with less of a clue would seem to be a certain Joop Munsterman.

Pearson did do an ok job at Southampton towards the end of last season, so that's what he's been hired.

Harry "down to the bare bones of my squad" Redknap did pretty well working with him?

Nigel "Captain Charisma" Pearson will be gone WELL before Christmas.
Did Mandaric INHERIT his fortune, or win the lottery or something ? The bloke is a complete and utter BUMPKIN.

Mandaric is a tosser. No time for him at all. Very surprised that Leicester fans have put up with him for so long.

Look where Portsmouth were when he took over, and look wehere they where when he left them. He did an outstanding job there.

I like the guy, he's a character and football would be a poorer place without him.

And this league would be slightly more difficult without him. Im happy for him to stick around.
