IF we win don’t get your hopes up for media praise, just an inquest into what’s gone wrong at Old Trafford

Completely unexcited. Glorious sunshine outside. Still got three weeks of my cricket season left, and hate the overlap.

Guess I’ll feel invested again when it kicks off.

The most curious thing..
It's the beginning of August. This is not the football season.

Were loose.

There’s a United fan protest (no idea, Glazers again maybe?) starting at 12pm today.

The United fans on the way from Sheffield have been talking about it on the train.

Man U have had a mixed pre-season. There's a lot of noise around Ronaldo wanting out. They haven't got their prime target in the transfer market yet. They had a disappointing last season on the back of previous bad seasons.

This tends to go one of two ways:

1) Poor performance and result, the narrative is their failing, and how much work is left for Ten Hag to do, how he won't be an instant fit and needs time. Fans turn toxic. Winning team barely get a mention.

2) Great performance, easy win, and the narrative is how quickly he has had an effect, has overcome the distraction of Ronaldo and is clearly going to be challenging for the title (before going on a poor run bcause everything finally has an effect and it's only so long they can rise above it).

Given we're their opponents today, the footballing gods will almost certainly make it the latter.

True, when we last played them at Old Trafford we played them off the park in the first half but couldn’t take advantage. Ronaldo was going through the most barren spell in his career…come the second half and the wheels came off within minutes and Ronaldo scored with Dunk also getting sent off

GP also (based on memory rather than statistics, so I could be wrong) doesn't have a great record against new managers... he wants to know what they're doing and abuse weaknesses. A little worried United might stomp the boys today... wouldn't mind being wrong.
