It is marketed entirely towards men because it was felt that Diet Coke is too effeminate.

It now means they can focus their advertising campaigns for the two products to cater specifically for their intended markets i.e. Diet Coke for the ladies and Coke Zero for the lads.

Of course anyone with any sense would steer clear of either inside rotting product

Totally untrue... Coke ZERO has no calories (actually 0.5 per 100ml)... but the same Caffeine as regular coke (9.7mg of caffeine per 100ml)

Diet Coke tastes nicer as they don't add artificial sweetness like in Coke Zero.

Indeed. Take a look at anything on the shelf that states 'Low Sugar', and often you will see it replaces by artificial sweeteners or High-fructose (or glucose) corn syrup. What you end up with, is worse than if you just doubled your sugar intake!

Jams and spreads that are of high fruit content will be healthier, and as long as sugar is not listed as the first ingredient (or the second TWO ingredients being sugar AND hfcs) then it has to be better for you ....it will be generally more expensive though.

my mate, who is an aspiring doctor, always tells me that diet coke and coke zero are worse for you in the long-term because they contain aspartame or something like that which causes cancer. imo i just drink normal coca-cola anyway but surely a dribk couldn't cause cancer could it?

I'd add Mars bars and Mars Lite bars to that too. They advertise Mars Lite bars as having something like 20% less fat than regular Mars bars. It's only when you look closely that you realise it's basically the same bar but it weighs about 20% less.
