Make or break season for Jake Robinson

coming up. I reckon he'll make it in League One and fulfil some of the overhyped potential that he has. He is not gonna be the next Owen but he will be a good player for us I reckon.

He's ben a big disappointment this season. Having turned in some excellent displays in the Championship towards the tail end of last season, his complete lack of progress this season has been very worrying. You could say exactly the same about Dean Hammond as well. Rightly or wrongly I was expecting them to improve and develop over the course of this last year, but they've both gone backwards IMHO.

Perhaps the drop down a level will do them good, as the Championship is a tough league to get to grips with as a youngster. Its just that this time last year they looked to be adapting to it quite well, but now...I dunno.

I felt that staying up last year would be really good for the development of the younger players like Robinson and Hammond. I still think they have probably learned a thing or two from this year but the flip side to that is that there are only so many things to be learnt when playing in a struggling side. This struggle seems to have affected Jake badly and you just hope that he can put it behind him because you would expect his pace and mobility to make him quite a handful in League 1. You are right, it really is make or break.

With Hammond on the other hand I have no doubt that he will do well. My only concern there is whether we will keep hold of him.

I acknowledged that the Championship IS a tough league to get to grips with for young players, especially in a struggling team. But both Robinson and Hammond were turning in some very promising displays a year ago, and from where I've been sitting all season, they've not really built on that or improved over the last year. I wasn't expecting them to set the Championship alight, but I think they've both been downright poor this season.

Maybe Robinson hasn't really had all that many opportunities this season, and playing with half a dozen different strike partners certainly won't have helped his cause either. But he looks half the player he did a year ago. And as for Hammond...this was certainly a season for him to forget. I'm not writing them off, mind. Hopefully the experience will have done them good and they can push on in this grubby division we now find ourselves in.

He missed some absolute sitters early season and his confidence paid for it.

Hopefully hell get another run out against inferior opposition and hit the net a few times. Otherwise out by Xmas.

We were discussing hammond on the train last night and the conculsion wa sthat as Chippy has had such a mare of a season, Hammond has been covering him instead of creating his own style.

I recon the Scottish one does not like jakey as he missed a couple of chances early on and its easy to critiscise Jakey. Him and McPhee played out of their socks at Burnley last year and that was the best we have seen of him

but much slower and not as aware, which leaves time for Jake to leave them for dead with his pace...I hope

Are they really though. It's a myth that players get harder and more physical as you drop down the leagues. Less skillful yes, bigger no.

I would back Jake Robinson to score more than CKR in League One if he gets an even amount of games.

He is a good player, good movement, bags of pace, and has actually got a powerful shot. He just needs more composure, he had 3 or 4 good chances early season when he/we were playing really well but scuffed them all. But his pace and movement cause problems for Championship defences so it will for League One sides.

It is a myth that players are bigger or more physichal as you go down the leagues. There are just as many big physical players in the Championship (and Premiership) as any other division. Just that they are generally quicker, more organised, more aware, and generally better.

CKR's problems will be the same in League One as they are in the Championship imo. His runs off the ball, his (in)ability to get into goalscoring positions regularly, will remain. He will score more as the defenders are worse but I'm not convinced he'll be prolific.

Chippy's never really recovered from the injury this season, but to blame Hammonds poor form on that is harsh.
Let's face it Hammond ain't much cop, he not a great passer, has poor first touch, has missed some real sitters, launches himself two footed into tackles and is generally a poor reader of the game. I don't think thats all down to Carpenter playing poorly is it?

Still not big enough to cope with the professional game. Gatting's regular place in the squad puts him clearly ahead of Robinson now.
