Some reviews of macro equipment are inadequate and misleading (not enough information*). Trial and error can be expensive. Still floundering a bit and it will not be sorted until the weather improves next spring. Lack of both good light and subject matter.

(*I used to do macro with film cameras and some things are different with digital like the TTL flash metering.)

I've just discovered that I can switch my camera to "live view" on the LED screen, and zoom in to get the focus spot-on. I'm going to have a go using this technique early next week and see what the results are like. Watch this space!

Shooting Critters

This is getting much more difficult than expected. The larger sensor on the new camera and the depth of field reduces, smaller aperture and diffraction increases, light levels and I have to worry about camera shake, and then the flash casts a shadow. I got better results on my old bridge camera. By that time any critter will have flown away. Manual focus used.

I recommend putting the pictures on flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/shoreham/15393405497/

I think it is diffraction that has made this one slightly fuzzy. I am going to have to get a book on it.
