Calleri?
Bolanos?

.....Pritchard?

Calleri was ditched after the club found difficulties in ownership rights. Bolanos wasn't happening anyway. Pritchard was offered far better terms by Norwich City having agreed to come to us. Speculation isn't truth. Just because things are an elongated chapter on NSC it doesn't mean they are not as clear cut at the club itself.

Norwood looks a decent ball player but too much of a luxury player for 4-4-2 doesn't cover enough ground, hence us losing the midfield battle.

The introduction of Duffy seems to have rattled our back four and Bruno in particular. He also looks a bit of a hoof ball merchant so he will need to adapt and quick otherwise a fit Conor Goldson keeps him out of the team all day long.

Well documented that Duffy's passing is his weakness. I forsee problems too.

Not always easy to interpret when in a forum like this.

And of course the disaster that is Derby County throwing stupid money at every recent transfer window completely undermines that argument. How can you say the quality of recruitment personnel at a club doesn't matter!?
Fair comment, about the quality of staff.
But the point I was, badly, making is best recruitment team in the world can't do the job if they aren't given the money.

It seems pretty clear that the recruiters aren't given 'striker' money when out shopping for a striker.
Chances are they're probably supposed to come back with change, too.

4 million to bring back Colin Hawkins is looking a bit steep.
Need to see if he can build a better understanding with his fellow defenders. Not an encouraging start.

I am not sure who does exactly what in the recruitment/scouting department but the 2 recent signings suggest that he is being missed as they do not seem up to strength although perhaps we should give them both time to settle in, but it doesnt look good at the moment.

To Birmingham at the end of last season is looking very unwise right about now.

Chester was responsible for finding kayal, knockheart, goldson, rosenior, skalak etc we had excellent recruitment last season.

Now we are left with winstanley who seems to be a bit of a plodder incapable of getting deals done and seemingly incapable of finding new talent.

Thoughts ?

Paul Winstantly has been working for the recruitment team at the Albion since Sept 2014.

You mean the 24 year old, Everton scholar, who knows the Championship inside out, has played all levels of international football, and was last seen in the last 16 of the Euro's.

Granted he's been shitehouse for us, but that's not the point

From the programme he seems rather proud of his tatts. Maybe he'll be able to afford some on his right arm now. That would be very scholarly.:tosser:

.

We think Alex Pritchard is worth a punt. Bloom: Ok. Here's £7m quid. Fee agreed with Spurs and Pritchard. (and then Norwich stepped in).
Recruiters had nothing to do with the deal not being done. And they clearly had enough money to get him.

That doesnt explain why we never had a back up striker in mind just in case, that we could have chased, as we had the time unlike if Stephens had gone late on. Nor does it explain the purchase of Duffy and Norwood who both look like panic buys.

Quite. I'd like to see the OP's first-hand, peer-reviewed evidence that it was Ewan Chester - and him alone - who 'found' those players.

Paul Winstanley joined the club in 2014 and has been head of recruitment since March 2015. Bizarrely the thrust of this thread is that he had nothing to do with any of our signings since then (its his chief scout who left for personal reasons), or that we can judge all the signings made this summer after a mere 6 games.

Again, we'd like to know how you know there wasn't a 'back up striker' just in case.

Are you party to Paul Winstanley / the board's meetings?

Surely the scouts report to the chief scout who then watches the player himself and then passes it on to the manager and or recruitment team for them to take action. Without the chief scout in this case Ewan Chester somebody else, who may or may not be as good a scout, passes on the info. It will be interesting to monitor Birminghams transfer dealings.
