Fran was very fed up not getting on in the last home match.I would give him a starting place......His time has come (maybe) . I would only take a loan , with a view to a permenant move in the summer.

Would make all the sense in the world if it was someone with a view to permenant move in summer. That would mean someone with championship experence and give him more time to gel with other player. Although I dont really see that as being a problem, with a good pre season. Still think phillips is a good shout, clearly has looked after himself and proven at that level. He wont get a deal with a prem club and I think he wants to play another season. He would be perfect and for all those who mention his age, Teddy Sherringham springs to mind at Pompey and West Ham...Goalscorering is instintive for someone like Phillips and he would bag 20 with ease, the way we play.

Would love to see Simon Cox up front with Glenn.
A loan with a view for a permanent deal in the summer
He is not getting a game at WBA making it much more realistic than it was last summer.

With promotion almost guareented I think the club will want to rubber stamp it and sign someone on loan and cover all bases. What if Murray gets injured on Tuesday we would be buggered.

The price of promotion is huge to the club and we can't be left short with the finishing post being so close. Sadly now is not the time to blood a youngster.

My only slight concern is that with Barnes out injured we could also lose Murray for Tuesday or that he plays but his effectiveness is diminished after the effort he put in yesterday - he was "more than normally" tired at the end of the match having put in a phenomenal shift. With Wood available and sure to be keen to play a more effective role than yesterday I would be happy with Sandaza coming off the bench and Toby soaking up a bit of the atmosphere but if Murray is likely to be less than his normal self (and of course if Barnes might miss more than a couple of games) I would agree that a good loan signing would make sense and that, knowing Gus' style, would logically be someone we plan on bringing in for next season. Belt and braces at this juncture!

IF we do sign a loanee, however, it would surely confirm that Sandaza hasn't done enough to earn another contract.

Whilest generally not advocating we get in a loan signing I would say that with Wood going with, NZ, Barnes being injured, the loan window closing on Thursday, our only striker who has played any amount of games being Murray, I would suggest than an injury to him could blow our season out of the window so I would go with bringing in an experienced 1 month loan signing as cover.

No, no it doesn't. WBA could well get relegated so I doubt they'd sell Simon Cox as he is a very good striker who could probably bang in the goals in the Championship with the right support around him.

Can't help thinking that a loan player will take time to adjust to the way we play.

Maybe someone we hope to sign could play a part but in the short term search for results I think I would rather start Noone playing just wide of Murray* and Wood tommorrow (Murray and Sandaza on Saturday) in the role that Barnes has often played when we have used the three man attack.

* I think we have to risk starting Murray tomorrow if he is up for it and hope that it gives us the impetus to get an early lead so he can go off and give Sandaza time on the pitch.

Simon Cox is the type of player we should be targeting when we reach championship if we want to make steady progress
