You Liverpool fans are very sweet though.

So excited to be getting rid of a group of nasty profiteering yanks.

Subsequently so excited about another group of profiteering yanks taking over.

Bless.

Didn't seem to be when Liverpool were in the bottom three:shrug::shrug:
Not really. Everybody (barring a few brainwashed types) was pleased to see Liverpool struggling. And that isn't/wasn't because we're anti-Liverpool per se as most of don't give a toss one way or the other which of the big teams wins the prem - you're all the same to us.

We are however 'anti-big' and it WAS gratifying to see one of the apparently immovable Big Four having such a sticky start to the season. Some may have got carried away, a glimmer of hope that perhaps the top of the Premiership wasn't a boring closed shop accessible only to those with sufficient financial clout, but I think most of us, sadly, knew it was only temporary and eventually the money would win.

Cool. How big time are we these days, if we have Liverpool fans on here defending their results to us.

Wow. The Gus Bus is really rolling now.

Do we?

Who the f*** wants to play in a league where only 2-3 teams ever win it.

How f***ing boring! But then again that probably sums up your personality.

I think you'll find a lot of fans would be happier with being a decent championship side who has a good run at the cup each year.

Rather than a team who sells its soul to get into that utter pile of shit the Premier League only to be there 2-3 years and end up in dire financial trouble.

I agree with you TB. The idea of being mid-table Premiership furniture doesn't appeal to me at all. The EPL has to currently be the most boring it has ever been. Who wants to play in a League you have absolutely no chance of winning, or indeed getting anywhere near winning? Not me.

Yeah, promotion to the Premiership would be great fun, and I'd enjoy the fight for survival, but if you "establish" yourself in there, what next? Birmingham, Sunderland, Aston Villa even .... is that fun really? The owner at Villa has clearly seen that it would be a gamble of £200m+ to try and push on any further, and decided it's not a gamble worth taking. Stay where they are, take the EPL money and enjoy being "part of it." As a supporter though that's just tiresome.

Even teams in the "top 4" try to stay there without ever gambling the money needed to push for the title. Liverpool failed to stay there, but Arsenal (and perhaps even Man Utd next) aren't spending the money necessary to push for the title.

I'd love to be a Championship / Premiership yo-yo club, but beyond that, I'm afraid it looks pretty dull to me. Promotions and relegations, THAT's what's exciting, not trying to improve on 12th, with 5th being the absolute height of possibility.

It's still early in the season... As soon as Gerrard gets injured I'm sure Liverpool will be fighting to stay out of the bottom three again.

But seriously... LOL at anyone that thinks people seriously think Liverpool would get relegated

Totally agree.

My ideal scenario (and I've probably bored you with this before) is for us to be another West Brom, yo-yo-ing between the upper echelons of the Championship, and fighting for survival in the Prem. Sometimes you stay up, sometimes you don't, but you get an exciting ride AND stay totally solvent.

Never a dull moment being a Baggie. I'd love us to emulate that.

Would you rather we end up like Pompey?

The top flight of English football used to mean something, not now.

Since the formation of the EPL it's become a farce and holds in my mind nothing like the mystique of the pre-EPL times.

It's become such that teams don't dream of winning the title anymore, they just dream of making the Eufa Cup.

And then play their reserves in it, for fear of being tired-out for the "6-pointer" on Sunday.

Exactly. Sky are interested during March and April for next years UEFA Cup, simply because they need something to talk about when trying to big-up meaningless games. Once the following season starts, Sky don't care about the UEFA Cup, maybe because they don't have the coverage, but it's probably the other way round ... they don't even care enough to bid for the games. And why is that? because, as you say easy, the teams themselves couldn't care less until their own EPL safety has been secured. maybe Fulham (or similar) will be interested from the QF onwards if they are safe in the League, but until then, it's quite clear the away trip to Blackburn is more important than Juventus in the UEFA Cup.

Sorry, but as a fan, the game with Juve would be MILES more important and seeing my club not care enough to put out a full side would just infuriate me.

Emulate WBA .... absolutely, that would be the aim, as beyond that looks unbelievably boring.

My only feeling about Liverpool is based on personal experience. In 1983 I went to watch the Mighty Albion beat them. On the way to my car, with friends and kids a Liverpool fan walked up to me, punched me in the face, and disappeared. I have been to numerous away matches and never had that happen before.

Maybe I am wrong, but I despise the club and am always pleased to see them do badly.

Hello Jerry, how's the nosebleed? Les

Obviously Liverpool were never going to get relegated but this thread raises the issue of the prospect of them perenially "treading water".

I agree that in terms of entertainment is probably would be better to be West Brom than, say, Villa or Sunderland.

No, I don't want us to end up like Pompey, but there are many clubs who cut their cloth fainancially and compete. Look at the likes of Wolves, West Brom, Birmingham, Wigan, Bolton etc.
