I think that we may have seen the last of Liverpool FC as a " Big 4 " club. It's sad to see the decline over the last 18 months or so but thats football and teams rise and fall over many years. It maybe that Liverpool will end up like Preston N.E. or Blackpool etc etc..

Old ground, "only 45,00 capacity", I'd agree, they are a club on the slide who may never recover to their previous dizzy heights

How have they been in decline for 18 months? It's only 10 months since they narrowly missed out on winning the premiership after losing TWICE all season!

The decline IS there for all to see, suppose we had drawn one of the Big 4 this season in the FA Cup.... who would you have thought would be the most vulnerable to losing to a lower league team ? Chelsea, Arsenal, Manure or Liverpool ?

There is no fear factor about playing Liverpool anymore.

liverpool messed up BIG TIME in not properly replacing xabi alonso.......he made that team tick, and mascherano is nowhere near as good without him...it also took a lot of the burden off of gerrard having alonso in the team

plus it doesn't help torres being injured/off form, as there is literally no-one else who has the ability to get enough goals to get them where they need to be

I'm not arguing about that. For what it's worth I think Benitez is one of the worst managers in the premier league and I've said that even when they've been winning trophies and finishing 2nd-4th every year. Unlike everyone else who's just realised now! But to say they've been in decline for 18 months is wrong in my opinion, because last season was probably the only season they've actually looked like challenging for the league in recent times.

Last season they had a minor zenith, and several players punched above their weight, but, Benithez was not backed up in the transfer market and lost Alonso and Keane among others. So, er, when did Liverpool win a trophy last ?

It's already been mentioned above, but what they had last season was Alonso pulling the strings, which allowed Gerrard and Mascherano to be at their absolute best. That is one hell of a midfield, and good enough to compensate for the fact they've not got much out wide and absolutely f*** all upfront bar Torres. Of course, having Torres fit and firing for more of the season than they have done before or since helped too.

They haven't replaced Alonso, or rather they have but Benitez bought him injured and now refuses to play him. Basically, the manager is a complete clown and they haven't got the money to compete with at least five or six other clubs. They may well now become a mid-table team in fact.

But they still weren't in decline 18 months ago:smile:

I think that 11 draws including such heavyweight fixtures as Stoke,0-0 and Wigan, 0-0 indicate a decline in any currency, the defence, rests
