When we used to have the unadulterated dross that was BBC prime over here (whicgh was still showing Are you being served five years ago), whenever we complained about it being so awfully out of date we were told that BBC Prime's target market was the Indian subcontinent as there was a large buy in to traditional BBC programmes. Maybe thats why Life of Riley is still going.... between watching Some mothers do ave em and are you beign served in downtown Mumbai.

A friend of mine from Slovenia told me that he'd learned a lot of his English from watching old episodes of On The Buses on Slovene TV

yes yes, i thought of several as soon as i hit submit

i should requalify as are there any good mainstream comedies? but then i dont think theres as much comedy on in the 7-9pm slot in general as their used to be. notable most the comedy is from Channel 4 these days.

I flew on Uzbekistan Airways back in 1994 and the only in-flight entertainment was non-stop Benny Hill videos.

I can just imagine everyone at language school in Tashkent repeating the phrase "just soya dumplings..." in unison.

I've just unearthed a comment I posted on Digital Spy back in January 2009 after the first episode of Series 1

"Numerous complaints have been made on the BBC website about this programme not only being the worst attempt at sitcom since the 1980's but the nauseous and traumatic sight of Crystal Palace props in a bedroom scene. Why was there no announcement of an action line number to ring at the end of the programme for viewers affected by what they had just watched ?"
