Libertines or Babyshambles?

Yet ANOTHER example of why music should NOT be discsussed on this website. 'Up The Bracket' is arguabley one of the best albums of the last DECADE and although the follow-up was a bit of a dissappointment, anyone who labels Doherty as talentless is a prize CHISLA.

Gazza drank loads, didn't make him a shit footballer.

Disagree with that. The first album was raw and showed some potential but became an average Clash LP halfway through. Once Barat and Doherty, in particular, became tabloid fodder the hype overshadowed the music and their shambolic musicianship could not stand the strain of a second album.

Well said.

Up the bracket is an amazing album, the libertines is also very good, they've also got some excellent songs which have never been officialy released.
Pete's very talented, unfortnantly he's wasted alot of that talent because of the drugs. Hopefully one day he'll sort himself out and get back with Carl because they've still got the potential to write some classic songs.

It's not a bad record. Can't Stand Me Now was a great tune but the first album was something else.

Any band who brings out What A Waster as a debut single can't be ignored.

The best thing about 'Up the bracket' was that it was engineered by a former member of the clash which had as much to do with its eventual sound then the talent of Doherty.

The Libertines were at their best when they were a raw and underground band. As soon as they hit the gossip pages of the tabloids and had the NME crawling all over them then they arguably became exactly the sort of band which the people who listened to them were trying to escape.

The Libertines were a GREAT band. What a waster is a great song. Both albums are exceptional. Doherty is a fantastic lyricist and an old school rock star. I think rock stars should have that dangerous edge. If you dismiss him because he has a drug habit you should also dismiss Marley, The Stones, The Beatles, Bowie, The Streets etc etc etc

If you have a problem with a rock star doing drugs go and listen to Dido.

I was thoroughly underwhelmed by what I heard of the Libertines, and as such am in no rush to get hold of any Babyshambles material.

The first Libertines album was superb but Doherty is a smacked up waster.

Will be interesting to hear Carl Barat's stuff when it comes out.

Good summary

Babyshambles are a complete pile of garbage. Easily the worst band I saw at Glastonbury and that includes the guy on the pedal bike powered thing near the stone circle singing hippy nonsence out of tune.

The last BS release was so bad it ws hilarious.

i am officially old as both bands have completely passed me by. i get the feeling that he should be very good, but everytime i see him live he seems to be a non talented Shane MacGowan. Mind you Shane MacGowan is a genius
You don't have to be old.

They've passed me by too, but that's probably a good thing. I tend to concentrate on more inventive music anyway :drink:

This coming from the man who tried to convince me the Robin (Robyn?)S was great and that the songs weren't all the same!

The stuff you listen to sounds like someone has pressed the demo button on an old Bontempi keyboard!

Libertines albums not bad, but were shocking live.
