The left turn from Lewes Road into Coldean Lane doesn't involve crossing a solid white line. It's marked with a dashed line and a clearly painted arrow indicating where left-turning traffic can cross from the main traffic lane into the left-turning lane.

clearly?
really???

The 30mph signs were going up at the bottom of Coldean Lane this morning. Still cannot see any camera's other than the usual CCTV cameras though. Maybe these are the ones they will use?

Caught the tail end of a story on Sky News this morninig that local councils are no longer allowed to use CCTV to catch motorists out.

I think that what you're referring to are proposals from Eric Pickles that CCTV cameras should not be used to enforce parking regulations. It's something he's set to unveil at the Tory conference next week but it should be pointed out that a) these are plans and not yet implemented and b) will apply to parking only and not speeding

It looked pretty clear, bright and freshly painted, when I spent five minutes at the Coldean Lane bus stop this evening, waiting for a bus to Lewes. All of the left-turning traffic that I was watching made the manoeuvre safely and in accordance with the road markings.

The road markings may be clear (ish) but you still have to turn across the cycle lane, with buses pulling out in the other direction. IMO someone is going to get badly hurt there before too long. Everytime I make that turn I am extremely nervous...

My apologies, I did take better notice today, and they are in fact pretty clear looking!
However, the broken line seems to start very close to the junction, especially at Coombe Road. With heavy traffic a lot of vehicles will have to cross over into the bus lane before the line becomes unbroken, I just hope there isn't too many heavy handed fines handed out.
Sorry, not being pedantic, just curious like...

Left-turning traffic is always hazardous to cyclists - especially when traffic is turning left when the cyclists are in a lane to the left of the turning vehicles. At Coldean Lane, the left-turning traffic crosses the cycle lane before it reaches the left turn itself. At the junction, cyclists are on the right-hand side of left-turning vehicles - which, in theory, is safer than most UK junctions with cycle lanes. What drivers have to watch out for is cyclists who might be in the cycle lane at the point that their vehicle crosses it - but visibility is generally good enough to enable this manoeuvre to take place safely.
