Breaking news or not, but uncertain times ahead for The Rooks if print media is accurate (?) apparently the club needs 100k+ just to get to the start of the season. Any genuine information can someone update regarding the club ?

Please: use their correct title (as per the Daily Mail website today) of Woke FC.

Obviously they were gleefully reporting that Lewes are struggling to continue, due to their overwhelming WOKENESS resulting in them being a financial disaster.

I didn't bother reading the comments, mainly because they would have been from complete twats.

This is genuinely the Daily Mail headline on the matter...

'Woke' football club beg fans for £120,000 to escape going bust after becoming the only team to pay their women's team the same as their men

Hope they can figure something out
I'll happily chuck them a tenner just to piss the Mail off.

Was always slightly overblown as at the time the women's team were in the 2nd tier whilst the men's team were in the what, 7th tier? Wages between the two weren't going to be a million miles apart anyway surely. Less woke, more just paying vaguely appropriate wages for the level they're at

Wasn’t it overall budgets rather than individual wages that were claimed to be the same?

The Telegraph also had a "Go woke, go broke" headline. Twats
Was going to say the same. The telegraph these days is basically nothing more than a long read version of the mail. Absolutely gleeful that a 'woke' club that dared to try something different, and good, is in trouble. And not a word about the (I think?) real problem which is that grassroots clubs like Lewes, which have helped build the women's game, cannot compete when the bloated wealth of the premier league starts kicking in, Big money must always be good in Torygraph world. Arseholes..

Fair enough, in which case it's still the same...the budgets would probably be roughly on par anyway

Seems like a thread of people commenting on an interesting article about a local club so they can have a pop at Tories, The Telegraph, The Mail, critics of woke ideals, and very little about the content from reading it or from local, maybe informed knowledge. Oh, hang on, they won't have read it. How very NSC. Must admit, I read the article and made my own judgements on a local club that's struggling. How very naive of me.

Yes, the way those two papers have presented it is biased and disgustingly sexist.

Hope that helps.

Shirley the problem is trying to run two first teams on one first team revenue or did the women's side get large gates?

Sadly could see this coming a while back 😞
We were talking about this last June. You're ITK more than the vast majority if not all on here.

That £79.1m takeover offer by Mercury/13 would changed matters considerably, but at what cost?

Women's football has changed dramatically in the last 2 years, most notably in terms of management and structure. With larger fanbases (albeit not necessarily attendances) being connected with parent clubs, there was little chance of the likes of Lewes surviving in the 2nd tier, now WSL 2. Financing women's football below the 2nd tier outside of sponsorship income is precarious at best

Seeing at the thread has moved from the actual story itself to how it's being presented, words used and the political positions of the media outlets reporting, it might be valuable if you could share a bit more of your thoughts on how the situation's reached such a state.

With what one might imagine to be significantly cut costs across the club, including the men's teams and youth set-up, the financial issues can't be laid solely at the women's changing room door.

The gates for the women’s and men’s fixtures are virtually identical

Why would I read an article with a ridiculous, comical, headline?

I already knew a bit about the situation from speaking to people and reading non-deranged media eg. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clygvnx4z31o
