Who's this witness then? Barry the Bat?
No, it's the old dear from Falmer who was on the radio jumping for joy when the non-decision was announced.

I have already emailed the councillors about the £35000 of MY council tax money and I shall now be complaining about their deliberate delaying tactics.

It is not even certain that the election will be in May (although it looks likely)

I hope Blair stuffs them all and calls an Autumn election by which time we will have our decision and Lewes are left with egg on their faces.

Although I'm also frustrated at any delay, (be it Prescott, Lewes or whoever), Lewes DC have every right in the eyes of the law to raise concerns at issues that affect their area.

Remember that although the stadium is in Brighton and Hove, it is right on the border of Lewes DC, so it will have an impact (eg approach roads, traffic etc) on residents who live in Lewes.

I reckon the impact would be positive, but others don't think so - and Lewes DC, as the relevant local authority for Falmer village, can get involved if it so chooses.

As regards the referendum - yep, I reckon Lewes should have been involved in this - but was the district council ever approached by the club or by Brighton and Hove council to see if they wanted to take part? I doubt it but would love to be proved wrong.

I think that you may have missed to point here. Nobody doubts the rights of LDC to have views, for or against the Falmer plans, the point is that only 1/5 of those who expressed a preference, voted against Falmer. In addition to this, they are delaying the hearing date unecessarily.

She blamed Mr Prescott, saying: "John Prescott had the report from the planning inspector last December. He only published his reasons for holding another inquiry in July. The inefficiency lies with him."

Clever thing to say.

Totally disagree with you on this one. Lewes district council is not just incharge of Lewes. There are a great many places of higher population than Lewes that falls under LDC's control. Seaford for example. The fact that this issue mearly borders LDCs area rather than actually in it is even greater reason for a referendum. I also don't agree that BHAFC or indeed BHCC should have invited LDC to join in with their referendum. It is down to LDC to hold one in order to find out if they are acting in the interests of the majority of their constituants rather than just a few NIMBYs. I would think that most businesses in Lewes (especially the pubs & Hotels) would welcome an influx in customers every other week! Let's face it Lewes is a tourist town and to have 2000 away fans decend is great news.

I really don't think the FFA team has approached this the right way. Rather than beating them in the courts it might be an idea to stop them turning up in the first place by getting them to actually ask the people they serve if they want there money spent this way or would a local school benefit from a £35,000 windfall?

If you re-read my post then you would see that I agree with you on most things:
- I realise that Lewes council covers much more than Lewes town itself!
- I agree very much with you that it is down to LDC to hold a referendum, and
- I agree that the benefits would be positive, (e.g. more people visiting the area, etc) not negative.

What I was wondering was this: Brighton and Hove were encouraged to hold a referendum - but did anyone put in any time trying to get Lewes District Council on board?

hmm...I disagree, some people were doubting their rights to have views.

And don't forget Prescott taking half a year to read the inspector's report....that also delayed the hearing date unecessarily.

I know this may sound stupid but anyone who lives in Brighton and the whole of East Sussex and supports the stadium should not attend Lewes Bonfire Night out of principal, I also agree that people living under Lewes District Council have not been asked whether we want a stadium or not so bascially they are assuming that no one wants it, what gets up my nose even more is that they are wasting £35,000 which is absolutely disgraceful when they should be repairing the A259.
