LETTERS TO PRESCOTT - what we need to focus on...

I think its important to bear in mind that all letters to Prescott need to focus specifically on the glaring inaccuracies of Hoile's report. We don't want to lose sight that the ODPM is "seeking comments from all interested parties on the report by the Local Planning Inspector" - so piece by piece, Hoile's assertions needs to be systematically dismantled. That has to be the main thrust of the letters going to Prescott.

Off the top of my head, the main bones of contention were Hoile's assertions that:
  • The site is too small
  • It is not in the National interest
  • Other sites have not been properly considered (Brighton Station, Sheepcote Valley and Withdean)
  • There is no demonstrable need for a new stadium
  • The project would require additional peripheral facilities to be built in order to fund itself
We really do need to ensure we specifically address and counteract the arguments in Hoile's report, rather than simply writing in explaining why Falmer is so vital to the Albion in general. I'm sure there were others inaccuracies, as I read through the bloody thing in full when someone (Lord B ?) posted it up on here. Has anyone still got a copy of Hoile's report that could be pasted up, or a more definitive list of his inaccuracies than I've managed here, so that we can address them ?

We're a provincial club? Maybe a bit about catchment areas and the like. And a bit about the shockwaves that would be caused throughout the league nationally should we fold.

Trouble is getting friends/family to write yet another letter, doubt many would as they will say "done that already, cant be arsed again". Of course we can use their sig on a made up letter with their permission but I dont think it'll have the same effect as before when we've had to write in...still every little helps.

True, but what choice have we got ? JP has asked for our comments, so our comments he shall have. I just think it's very important we channel the letters properly so that Hoile's arguments are cut to ribbons. JP will already have had the "experts" response to Hoile's report, the stadium planners will have seen to that. We need to show as fans that we are on the ball with this as well.

I'm going to draft a letter over today/tomorrow addressing Hoile's assertions, and use it as a template for my friends/family/workmates to sign again. One big push before April 9th could make all the difference once again - it seemed to work last time, after all.

indeed, I'm crap at writing leters so maybe we need another Template thread to help those :dunce: like myself! Then I'll print off loads and send them before April 9th.
Maybe even with pictures of Falmer? would that be worth it?

Surely the point is that it is the ODPM requesting comments from interested parties, i.e. only send in your comments if you've specifically been asked by ODPM to do so ?

I sent a letter to Prescott at the start of February, & got a reply back from the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol, not from the ODPM.

Why would ODPM want me to send them another letter, they already know what my views of Hoiles report are they haven't changed just because 8 weeks have passed.

I don't think we need to write any more letters at this stage, unless of course, someone at the Club can advise differently.

The letter says all parties & any others who appeared at the public inquiry to comment on the content of Hoile's report.

So I dont think we need to do any more letters.

I disagree.
We don't want to sit back and let the campaign run out of steam as we approach the finish line. We have between now and April 9th to put one last effort in, to show that it's not just the planners who can see the gapig holes in Charles Hoile's report, but the fans as well. Not all the letters we have already sent will have been specifically in response to Hoile's conclusions. Sure, a large number of them will have done, but whats the harm in forcing home the point, reaffirming the strength of the application and pointing out the weaknessesin Hoile's report ?

Now is not the time to sit on our hands and wait. If you can't be arsed, or don't think its worthwhile, then fair enough. But I think this is a final chance, with a deadline of April 9th, to make one last effort to get our point across.

yeah I'm with Easy on this, when fighting for your right to be heard you dont just stop...you continue until the death and lets face it that sums us up easily enough.
We must continue to bombard Whitehall with our views, afterall we are citizens of this nation and we have already made our voice heard and we need to continue to do so. We have a right to express our views so lets make sure we do so.

Working on it.
I'm going to get something together by the end of the week, and run it by Lord B beforehand.

Come on guys, this is the FINAL FRONTIER. We have come to far on this one to throw our hands up in the air and say "Done our bit." This is the first time I can remember actually writing to someone who has ASKED for my opinions.

Up until now I have written to anybody and everybody about any little piece of information that I can think is vaguely relevant. Whether it be councillors in districts I've never heard of or radio stations in the hope they will support the campaign.

Now someone has actually asked us to write!!!!!

We shouldn't need much more encouragement than that should we. One last effort, but we need to make the letters very pointed, and carefully pull to pieces the arguments put up against the plan, not just hot air about how "we want this stadium."

Top effort Easy10 - once again - in getting a template letter together. Personally, I'll do my own and will willingly post it up. Let's get a few on here and anyone can just plagerise bits and pieces of each.

This shall be OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY.
