Glentoran plan to appeal a three-match suspension handed out to new signing Leon Knight.

The striker has been punished in relation to incidents in the IRN-BRU League Cup semi-final when he was playing for Coleraine at Cliftonville.

Bannsiders player Johnny Black was punched by a Reds fan after the game and skirmishes broke out on the pitch.

Knight's celebrations after the 2-1 win were criticised although the IFA has not clarified the reason for the ban.

The suspension does not come into effect until Monday so Knight is available to make his Glens debut on Saturday against Donegal Celtic.

Knight signed for the Coleraine in October 2010 but the club said last month month that they would not continue to pay his travel costs from London to Northern Ireland for matches.

The club asked the much-travelled striker to live in Northern Ireland or pay his own travel costs.

Coleraine said on Monday that Knight had moved for an undisclosed fee.

Knight, whose regular Twitter comments have generated plenty of headlines, impressed during his first season at Ballycastle Road and remained at the club despite initially indicating last summer that he would be quitting the Bannsiders.
