Going this Arvo to have a check up after having my wrist in plaster for weeks.

I suffered with depression for years and dealt with it myself... Eventually I went to Doctor after a particularly dark bout and was prescribed anti depressants...have not had a recurrence since. Don't care if I'm medicated for ever if I don't have to go through that shit again.

How did you overcome your dentist phobia? Only reason I ask is I'm absolutely terrified of them :)

Try eating with no teeth. That's alot more difficult than having someone prod around your mouth for an hour or so every six months.

I HADN'T gone for about 2 1/2 years but I actually went 3 weeks ago as I had a WELL FAT ELBOW.

I had landed on it playing football and it had grown to the size of a Golf ball . Was quite funny. Just liquid. Had a fun few days freaking people out over it.

Bursitis or 'Students elbow'. Anyway he joked (as this was a saturday) that I might land on it on the sunday and burst it playing footy again instead of getting it drained on the wednesday. Queue me doing a slide tackle and feeling a sensation siilar to a falling on a water balloon.

POP and it had burst internally.

It has come back twice but not to the same effect and each time i've burst it myself by punching it.

I hadn't been for at least 15 years either.... then had a virus which knocked me out. Went to the surgery & after 2 minutes max, was told I had a virus. Had to go back the following week as the virus had led to sinusitus (spelling ?) - so twice in as many weeks
Haven't been back since though (tempting fate now !)

Today - well the nurse, anyway. My monthly blood test and yearly flu jab.

Was last in hospital last Friday, have had 4 operations this year, probably had at least 20 hospital visits this year and seen maybe 30 doctors. Next year will be worse.

Bit of a change, before the last couple of years, I never had any days off sick from work.

Last time I went to doc in mid-summer ended up in Acute Medical Unit in RSCH and stayed one night.

The whole saga in the A & E initially was like an episode of Shameless.(i.e. arrested crim with police escort, foul language, stupid drunks falling off bikes etc..)

Following morning I was assessed as having had "cluster migraines", i.e. one after another. Funny thing is I had never had a migraine before and not since!!!

I have never had a problem with the quacks, especially after a locum identified a problem that led to to a resection for bowel cancer. That was 10 years ago and I am grateful to still be here with no recurrence. If you've got a problem - get there and get it sorted soon as.

Had I not been butchered as a 10 year old by an orthodontic surgeon I doubt I'd have any difficulty with dentists at all.

Used to go to the doctors about once every 5 years.

Now at age 59 find myself going a lot more often, not for anything particularly serious - or at least not life threatening. Much of it hearing related, and then when I went lst time it was "let's check your blood pressure", which was high so I went back this morning to get it checked again, and it was high again, so will be going back again very soon to get it sorted.

But I would rather know about it and deal with it than ignore it, hope it goes away.... and die. Same with dentists - would rather take the minor discomfort of the dentist's chair occasionally than risk major toothache. If you get a good dentist anyway, they won't hurt you.

I went recently and the Doctor said," Hello, I haven't seen you for a while"

I said, "No Doc I've been ill.

I had a Inguinal Hernia for over a year. The reason I didnt go to the Docs straight away was I had just started a new job....anyway when I got to the Docs and showed him this lump sticking out my groin he asked when did this pop up I told him around months ago.

Fair to say he was in shock and it did hurt a bit.
