Last night's game and Gus' football philosophy

Gus should use last nights match as an instructional video for how he wants his players to play. What struck me was that United only managed to play the pressing game for the first 10 minutes, which I think is the only way to defeat a passing team (unless your team is a better passing team of course), before Barcelona managed to take full control of the match. It really was a footballing lesson, I hope we can use some of their techniques at Brighton.

Agree with most of the above.. I believe Gus will stay the duration to prove the points above.. the academy will be his baby and he should want to see it through.. hes a rich man already so a big money move is not going to trun his head.. I am of the opinion hes in it to build something.. a legacy and provided TB supports him (hed be a fool not too) and the fans stay for the journey (sell outs in year 2,3 & 4 at the Amex) then yes I agree we can and will be in the Premier league within 3 seasons. Consolodation year 1 and learn how to pass and move as above and play the style discussed... god it so exciting.. I cannot wait for the next chapter to start.. In Gus I Trust !

I agree and god I hope you're right. The thought of him leaving and taking his brand of football with him for us to never enjoy again fills me with dread.

What if he REALLY does want to stay-for say 10 years?

It truly was incredible that bar the the first ten minutes, United literally didn't have the ball for more than twenty seconds last night. Barca showed last night just why their the best team in football.

I think we would be foolish to think he would stay that long Gold, but hey who knows.. his LT ambition will be Chelsea, Spurs level, Spanish team he used to play for and Champions league etc but why rush ?? if his goal is to change the way football in England is played.. to take a team like BHA from 3rd tier to mid table premier by playing his way then what a legacy.. what a statement of TOLD YOU SO ! Realistically if this takes 5 years then I would wish him well etc.. if he bails before then it will be down to chairman or supporters not backing him.. JMO.

if he proves to be as good as he seems right now, the sky's the limit.

I know and it could happen-he is a man of integrity-besides he would still be young enough at the end of it to progress and ok i am awake now

They may be short on stature, but my God they snap into tackles. Every one of them - including Messi - harried and hassled the Man U players when they had the ball for 90 minutes. Brilliant.

Barca press so high up the pitch this is their first line of defence and all utd did when they got the ball in their own third of the pitch was launch it straight back to one of Barcas back 4 who were on the halfway line!!!
They are definatly the best footballing team ive ever seen and i love the way Gus is trying to bring the Barca way to our club from the way the kids play right through the club to the first team!!
Also good article in NOTW about Brendon Rodgers and the way Swansea play.....he spent time in Spain and is doing the same for Swansea as Gus wants to do here.......for them this season its worked well, fingers crossed for us too.

Listening to an interview with Guardiola before the game, if youd shut your eyes it could have been Gus. Exactly the same philosophy.

Good point about Swansea - they've been playing this all season. Some people describing it as boring crab football! Which is great - the more luddites that don't understand that the team with the ball generally wins the game, the better for us.

Many good posts on here.

Perish the thought of Gus leaving even after a substantial period but, given it does happen at some time in the future, I cannot imagine Tony Bloom being satisfied with a replacement who will direct the game any other way than as Gus does, AND, it will be SO much easier to attract the right sort of manager.

Thanks Greens :(
From reading this thread, it seems there is some comparison between the two managers philosophies, but perhaps, and obviously, a difference in personnel. Murray would have been the square peg in the round hole, so a replacement is now being sought. One player springs to mind who could fulfill the Messi role for us, and might be looking for pastures new after this afternoon. His initials being C M-S

Or maybe Gus think Hoskins can play this role.

I think the most important thing is for the club to set up its whole coaching system to play with this philosophy. Then when Gus leaves we simply replace him with someone with the same ideas and carry on developing, instead of going back to square one each time we get a new manager.

Yes, hope that happens. And with Blooom in charge no doubt it will.

Should be interesting when the training ground gets sorted.
