Last night I went to pick up my ticket for tonight's game and on the way back I asked my Dad to drive past where the Goldstone was. I guess with tonights game coming up I wanted visibly reminding of what it is we are all fighting for and why Falmer means so much. As we drove past it I could still see people buying programmes, late comers legging it across the park, could still almost hear the roar from the North Stand. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and I could see my Dad was getting a bit upset.
Tonights game is not just about promotion. It is about getting to Cardiff and taking 20,000 plus fans, sticking two fingers up to the people who have tried to ruin this great club that we all love like a family member. It is about showing John Precott that he has NO choice but to give us Falmer. I think sometimes it is good to remember the bad times because they make us more determined to never let them happen again, more appreciative of what we have now. I still have a dream that we could one day return to the Goldtsone, that Dick Knight et al will hand out heavy duty building equipment and we will be allowed to knock down the Toys r Us etc and then reclaim what is rightfully ours. This is a nice daydream but nothing more then. We need to make sure that in years to come, our children dont have similar dreams about building a stadium at Falmer. We need to ensure that this club moves on. I for one believe one hundred percent that we will get Falmer, and that when we do walk out on to the pitch for the first time, much like the 26th April 1997 at the Goldstone, there will not be a dry eye in the place. This time however it will be tears of happiness, tears of relief.
This is a great great club that we are all fortunate enough to be part of. We must never forget.
