Had enough of computers and have been thinking of buying a laptop for the last few months so took the plunge and brought one.

Brought a Toshiba laptop on friday, cost £1,000. spoke with the salesman and he recommended Toshiba above all the others I've stated apart from Sony.

If you have brought a laptop or going to buy one then what was it or what will it be?

Just intrigued to find out what peoples opinions are.

Mr Dandy.

Anything but a Toshiba. But that is only because mine didn't work for a presentation. The general consensus is that it must have been a Toshiba. Sorry.

I don't know why. I expect they are all about the same. Most computers seem to be nowadays.

I've always associated Dell with business, quality make, but not for the average member of the public.:)

would never swap my desktop for a laptop, not good for upgrading among other reasons, got three hard drives in this desktop (needed for DVD authoring) 4GB memory, new DVD dual layer writer, two 21" digital screens (again required for editing)... show me a laptop that can compete ......

Had a laptop once, couldn't even cope with Championship manager 03/04....

But for work - the boring work like spreadheets etc they're all of a muchness - but prefer Dell's support over the rest....

If it's for posing at the airport got to be a Mac....

Agree with jmc-no laptop can compete with a desktop for upgradability, memory, disk size. For work my Compaq is fine (bettery's shit mind). When I next buy a laptop it'll be a Sony with their very sexy X Black screen (think that's what they call it). I'll wait though until they solve the reflection issues:lolol:

Where's the option for non Windows laptops.?

I recently purchased a 17" Apple PowerBook G4 1.5 with everything, and it's awesome, especially compared to Windows.

I agree Mr Tokyo. My iBook G4 is a year old now, but still very nice indeed thank you:clap2:

I've got four Dells, an IBM, an AST, a HP, and an Apple all sitting idle; I use my Sony for everything. The Apple is most useless peice of crap I ever bought, as it was obsolete within a year as Apple abandoned the line (PowerBook Duo)

There you go again dissing fruit. ;)

You're talking 1992 - 1996 which is ancient history in the world of computers.

Have you not tried the greatest and latest versions of the PowerBooks.? They're a completely different kettle of fish compared to the old days.

They're rebranded Sony's. Sony always have and always will build the damn things, remember that the first Powerbook was the "Sony Apple Powerbook 110".

And the Duo was 1995 I admit, but Apple made it obsolete within months by killing the line and stopping OS updates. Hence I'll never trust the fuckers again.

Falmer, soon...
I've had, in order, IBM, Tosh, Dell, IBM, Tosh, Compaq, Sony, IBM, IBM

The IBMs are practically indestructable, brilliant if you're travelling regularly.

Otherwise, you tend to get what you pay for.

I've got a Tosh, but that's only because I kept it when I got made redundant from my previous job. It's ok and does it's job in a no thrills kind of a way. As jmc and bwian stated it doesn't compete with the desktop and therefore rarely gets used.
