Good sages of NSC. I’m looking to get a new laptop fairly soon but to be honest, although I can use a PC, I’m pretty much a luddite when it comes to technical specs. Therefore I don’t know what bits of the spec (processor, memory, etc) that I need to compare for the things I want it to do.
On the whole we don’t use it for playing games (use the Wii for that), but broadly do the following types of things:
I want it to be able to do those things and, importantly, do them quickly. Which parts of a laptop spec might I need to pay particular attention to?
On the whole we don’t use it for playing games (use the Wii for that), but broadly do the following types of things:
- Email and internet (inc watching things on iplayer and the like), occasional downloads.
- General office type stuff (word processing, spreadsheets etc)
- Music – music stored on it and synced with MP3 player
- Photography – high quality (the pictures not my photography skills) RAW files from digital SLR, digital processing, Photoshop Elements.
- May possibly link a web cam at some point.
- Might buy some music writing software (as in writing the scores/sheet music).
