Language at footie matches

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

Although we played terribly On Saturday, I was really disappointed with the language that some men came out with. Basically, shouting out "f***ing hell Mayo your crap" and "McGhee you wanker, your shit" isn't going to do any help at all.

I don't think that saying this is going to get behind the team at all, and is going to make them feel worse.

These d**kheads don't think about anything else instead of their small minds.

BTW I spied sonic and he is one scary fella - and top marks for referee slagging!:clap2:

oops - should've included a reply as well, sorry, dunno what went on there!

Sonic is indeed a scary fella: six foot two of stubbly wit and wisdom, and the acknowledged king of the ref-and-lino-correcting fraternity. Mind you, he's not averse to the occasional choice obscenity himself - try mentioning Mr Prosser, or taking away his not-quite-empty pint of cider, or even Mekong whisky...

Bloke's a legend.

I used to be terrible with my footy language, but a few years of combining Withdean and taking my younger brother with me (he's 16 now but was about 12 or 13 when Withdean first became our lovely abode) sorted my gutter mouth out very quickly.

Still an animal at away games??? :)

No he said a few things about Prosser which made me (and others) laugh out loud, but I didn't hear him once slag off the team (he may have done, but not loudly like the prat next to my mate).

Don't get me wrong, it's not the language, it's the language to the team. I mean we can hear everything they say on the pitch, so I guess they can hear some loud gobshite in the crowd.

Let me just point this out! BB you are not going to a church service! It's a football match and bad language is to be expected.

He's too smart and has too much pride to take it out on anyone in an Albion shirt while they're on the pitch, I reckon. I expect most of us try, but I have to say it wasn't easy on Saturday!

I often say; "shit, bollocks, f***, wanker, bastard" at games.

But never, ever at the Stripes.

I have never & will never 'booo' the Stripes - Those who do should be ashamed. The team will know when they've played shite - they don't need reminding of the fact by an amateur in the stands.

Yes, we all pay our money but does slagging off the team/individuals really achieve anything?

i have to agree with eddie aswell, yeah i get frustrated at the way we are playing but slagging the team of isn't going to help. and everyone should jump off mghee's back he's only been here for 4 games (2 in the league) where we have got a point. coppell's first 2 games were defats and he soon turned it around as far as he could to give us some pride last season, let's get behind the lads and see how mcghee does in the next 5 0r 6 games, see who else he bring in (if he does) and how he changes the team.

I too believe that we should always try and refrain from swearing at the players but it is getting to be more and more difficult as they bumble and stumble from one shit performance to another.

The best thing that happened on Saturday was when they were sent out 5 minutes early and they were on their own in front of us. Every one of them was too ashamed and embarrassed to look up at us-and rightly so. Boy, that was SO tempting to hurl some verbal abust at them wasn't it?

Another performance like we've been subjected to of late on Saturday and I think there'll be no restraining some people.

I'm not one for indivdually abusing players. As a couple of people have already said, it's not really going to help, no matter how livid you may be with them.

However, I will freely admit to booing the team on occasions. Brentford this season and Palace and Stoke away last season. I don't believe this makes me any less of a fan, but the players do need to know sometimes how much they are letting us down. I don't agree with clapping blindly regardless of the performance, and it DEFINITELY doesn't mean I'm just thinking of my own 'small mind' (wtf?).

They expect the plaudits when they do well, they should expect a bit of grief when they disgrace the shirt they're wearing.

I pay my money and am entitled to slag off whom ever I choose - Always have and always will

The people who clapped the team at the end of the Brentford Game this season are a hell of alot worse than me

So what you are saying BB, is that if, for example, Jones is having a terrible match and he gives the ball away for perhaps the tenth time in the game, you never, ever say something along the lines of "For f**ks sake Jones, you are s**t"!!

Because I think you are telling porkies if you come back and tell me you never have a go at the players!!!

he he you! Course I do, but I say it to my mate. Something like "God Jones is playing shite" (ohhh dejau vouz)!!! But I do not shout "Ahhhh Jones you are playing well shite, get off the pitch".

Could you imagine me saying that either?
