Great news and I shall look forward to watching him in his 2 starts and 6 sub appearances.
Personally surprised, think it's a pointless extension. Poor defender and constantly injury prone - waste of wages and a squad place. Would MUCH rather have signed KWP.

Will be annoyed if we don't now bring in a new right back. We can't rely on Lamptey and Veltman.
Ferdi?

Perhaps as cover in a thin area of the pitch? An acceptance we’ll need Wieffer / Hinsh in the midfield as someone (presumably Baleba) is off?

Slightly more brutal than me, but I fully agree!

Hmmm. Have the club said anything about Veltman's contract? I'm surprised we'd keep both.
My worry with veltman was that his Mrs made a point of going to most of the aways last season and hadnt before.

Paranoia suggested to me that they wanted to move back to Holland this season.

Although I'm sure I read somewhere that he wanted to stay

Not defensively attacking I agree
Possibly, but if you're a full back under FH, you're sent up the pitch, you're going to get caught sometimes. They've all been wrong side of the play and huffing to get back. It's a baked in risk the manager has accepted

Don't get this at all. This is the sort of player we should be moving on like Moder. Good character, but if this means we won't bringing in another specialist RB for YET another season, then I'm not sure about this at all.
Call me cynical but if we wanted to keep him, he'd have got more than a one year extension. If he somehow makes the squad, it's as a back-up winger, not a regular right back.

Great guy and amazing going forward but we can't work around his poor injury record anymore.

We have enacted a year extension to protect our asset to ensure we get a fee, probably from Everton. I'm assuming the very similar KWP will sign on a free in a few weeks to replace him.
