Brilliant squad play, I am delighted about this.

Still concerned we have 3 RBs with poor injury records. Unless it’s an extension before a small value sale ?

I like him, great option, but soccerbase does suggest he is available for about 15 games a season.

I do worry about this continued aversion to having a dependable Right Back of prime age, but here's hoping it works out.

Good news. Means we won't be signing Walker Peters, who probably would have been given a bigger (longer in duration) contract than Lamptey.
Just got to keep Little T fit for a few games more next season.

Well that's my point, if he's the option instead of a new specialist RB, then the first part of your post indicates why this is an odd move.
It could be that the club are happy with the options already here.

Weiffer impressed me in that position more than in midfield. As you suggest, he isn't a specialist, but he appeared to be learning fast

Kadioglu who will presumably be fit, (though i'm not betting my house on it) will likely be our first choice at right back.

Veltman will continue to be a solid player for us. We normally look a better team with him in it

Lamptey is a better 4th choice right back than probably anyone else in this league has

Tasker could be the one coming fast up on the rails. A season out on loan, then see. We might not need to spend big.

Wonderful news. Love him, a tremendous player and so obviously a lovely guy too. Brilliant.

Logically, this is fine with me. He's an intelligent, talented and versatile player who contributed plenty last season despite injury problems. No reason he can't do so again, and maybe will be injured less and contribute more, in which case, happy days!

Emotionally I am just delighted. Always like to see Tariq on the pitch for us.

My uneducated guess would be that we put feelers out to assess value and decided that he was worth more to us than we'd get for him.

Isn’t he currently injured? (Again)
In which case this is a great move by the club in terms of his well-being.
He can play wing back and on either wing, he can also drop into either classic full back position. I think we now have 3 or 4 players who can do this. Tactics were sometimes a head scratcher last season, next season I can see formation being another one!!! I’m not sure we’ll have a set formation, which is going to be a very difficult to plan for if you’re the oppo.

Makes sense if we’re going to a back three. I was against it initially, as he just simply can’t be relied on due to his injury record. That remains the case, and it’s interesting that the extension is only for a year. I had wanted us to sign a marquee right back, but if lamptey is staying then bring in Walker-Peters on a free and between them they should be good enough cover. The situation is like us to avoid is having to shoehorn Wieffer or Hinshelwood in at right back again for a third of the season
