Maybe he’s not a selfish, or a stupid, c**t?

How do you work that one out HT?

I am far from selfish, I often put other people ahead of myself, even when I know it will be to my detriment.

Tories are not all public schoolboys with a million quid in loose change.

Perhaps the selfish ones are the guys who defied the government at every opportunity just because they like to revolt, they are led by idiots that just want to cause harm and division, like BLM on the streets in covid times, dirty Leeds fans celebrating a promotion, the tw@ts in Nottingham last night and even those old boys who can't resist a quick 4 pints down the local boozer.

Sorry to disappoint but I am in a different class to that bunch of selfish c***s.

Fair enough. Not all Tories are selfish or stupid c**ts, some are just c**ts.

The labour party are shot to bits.

Is that the Labour party that is in the lead in two national opinion polls?

Personally, I don't think there'll be a split. It's true that quite a few people will leave but who are they going to vote for? I've already seen one say that he's going to campaign for the Tories now and some going to Green (and no doubt some will join the Socialist Party or the SWP) but the majority will probably still vote Labour - even if not members.

You may also see people leave the Tory party - the One Nation, EU supporters. And these may well find another home somewhere - the LibDems or a Starmer-led Labour party.

We've had enough splits: the SDP and Change got nowhere and I can't see much desire for yet another centrist party.

Fair enough.

I am going to put this out there. You appear to vote for any party apart from the Tories, is this a deep thing inherited from family or the anti-Thatcher type that frequent Brighton and Hove???

No, it's because I read newspapers, books and magazines, studied Economics, watch Question Time, Newsnight etc and check the manifestos before each and every election. All of these things have led me to believe that most Tory politicians are money grabbing upper class c**ts who'd happily see a working man in poverty if it meant they could sit a seat closer to the CEO at the annual company dinner.

Also, Brexit.

I now look forward to Mouldy Boots explaining the reason he supports Boris Johnson. Something tells me it won’t be broad and/or deep but I’m happy to be wrong.

A Starmer led LP will be the centrist party - McDonnell/RLB/Abbott can do one and Starmer will walk the next election.

If he manages to suppress Momentum and doesn't appoint any of them to his shadow cabinet in the run-up to the next GE (say in the 12 months prior), then yes, I think it'll become a centrist party (again). If so, and if the Tories don't get their act together prior - and there's no current indication that they will, then yes, I'd agree - he'll walk the next election. A couple of big 'if's' there though, and if a week is a long time in politics, what's 4 years...?

All other things being equal, yes. However it depends upon the issues important to the electorate when that day comes. It is also entirely possible that the Tories set another Brexit trap that many on this thread and in the wider Labour Party would fall for all too willingly. Many Middle class Labour supporters are quite evangelical about the EU and they may have to be willing to compromise to attract the old northern voters back in to the fold. I would also add that expecting the Tories to continue being useless may be quite naive. It has been said that the job of the Tory party is to win elections and Starmer will not be under estimating their resolve to do so.

Only another 3/4 years before the next vote. No doubt they will have imploded by then and split into two entities. One the unions support and the other Starmer's factions

I'm not sure he'll walk it - there'd have to be a big swing away from the Tories for that to happen and with Labour screwed in Scotland it'll be tough.

His best bet is if Jimmy Krankie gets held to account over the Salmond affair. She's in big trouble with that and has only saved herself so far because of her nationalist ranting about Covid.

I'm still not entirely convinced by him but he's made a good start. Be good to see a credible, more centrist Labour party I could vote for - because I could never vote for Boris Johnson after the way he's handled this. If Boris gets kicked out and is replaced by someone credible (which is no one in the current cabinet as far as I can see) then Starmer will have a bigger problem to deal with.

The guy was a raving brexiteer which is the only thing keeping the tory mods from dumping this in the bear pit, which is where it would be had it been about a Tory.

Do you have any evidence to back up this claim the mods are Tories?

The sooner the labour party splits into two the better. The hard left has always been a parasitic party within a party and it needs the main body of the party to feed off and give it sustenance and legitimacy. They are totally self-obsessed, doctrinaire, unworldly and unpleasant. Time to see how big Starmer's balls really are.

I think you might have got this the wrong way around surely? Replace hard left with Blarites, and I think this statement would then make more sense.

You sound a little bit like a Gamm*n.
I thought they were supposed to be tories???

Fair point, but I still believe that Labour has such a bad reputation in general, it's just a few diehards that will hang in there. The last GE proved that and they are now at an all-time low, surely?

The media have smashed the tories for so long the polls had to show some red in them. They have time to get back off the floor now if they rebrand and lose the Labour tag. But they will have to think smart, maybe the BLM Party??? that appears to be trending at present.

And there lies the problem, your head is stuck in a book all day.

You're way wide of the mark on what a true Tory is.

And once again you're being deliberately obtuse. You asked what decided my VOTE. I gave you an entire range of things that included watching debates on telly and reading the manifesto, because I find that's the best way to decide what the policies and personalities up for election actually are. Or were. These days it seems you can make up any old shit and put it in your manifesto, win and then forget about it.

And I said Tory politician. Not "true Tory".

I have friends who vote Tory and am well aware that many "hard working small businessmen" from working backgrounds attach themselves to the party. Some of them are on here.

So, stop changing the subject. My vote is based on the people seeking it such as BoJo and Jacob Rees-Mogg, both of whom fit perfectly exactly what I described, and not their supporters.

Have you ever voted Labour???

I assume you live within the Brighton bubble and get involved in leftie Twitter rhetoric?

The labour party are shot to bits.

They need to split their ways, and the more central will need to grab a new party, called the 'New New Labour party'? with the Corbynist becoming the 'Dangerous Labour party'.

Starmer seems intelligent enough to know that centrists leaving to form their own party will end up in oblivion. They must at all costs remain the official party who will then retain the apparatus of constituency workers, agents, etc, as Kinnock and then Blair did when ridding Labour of Militant. Force the Corbynists to splinter off. I think Corbyn has overestimated how much loyalty there is to him, but we'll see..

Of course, if the Tories can ride out COVID and the inevitable economic nightmare of Brexit and then replace the doctrinaire Brexiters with centrists, they may swing things back in their favour. Their majority gives them plenty of time to do so. And in the end they'll do what they have to in order to give themselves the best chance of winning, because if they're not in power, their chances of lining their own pockets and those of their friends are diminished.

They are often helped by the Judean People's Front, sorry, Labour Party, fighting themselves rather than their true enemy, but this time the internal battles may be over by the next election. I for one will be glad to see the back of Corbyn, one of the least intelligent people to lead a political party in my lifetime.
