I think he’d be a sensible signing on a free. Experience and a player theoretically in his peak years. A specialist in that position, in an area we already have a top player (Veltman) and would mean Wieffer can play in midfield.

Hmmm. On one hand he's a good age, with good experience, and plays both full back positions. But on the other he has played heavily this past season in a terrible Southampton team. If he was to come in as a squad player, just to cover injuries, then fine. But if he was in any way coming in as a first choice right/left back i think i'd be a bit underwhelmed.

Brighton factually.....

I do not hold to much weight when a good player leaves a relegated team at the end of a hard season, Pascal came from a team that were humiliated that season.

OK if he's not the only RB coming in this summer. No if he is, as he wouldn't do much to fix our very weak defending of transitions.

Unless we are going back 3 with wingbacks and he is seen as the backup to Minteh/Ferdi at RWB.

I wonder whether this is just Sky Sports having to fill a Brighton section of a transfer piece and, with no information, turning to previous links.

His main attribute seems to be dribbling. However, if nothing changes, he'd be playing behind either of two excellent dribblers Minteh or Mitoma, and you'd think that we'd be wanting someone with a different profile behind them. He'd probably be behind Estupinan and Ferdi on the left, so you'd see him as a potential replacement on the right if Lamptey moves on.

At 5'7", he's bigger than Lamptey, but his signing wouldn't seem to be a response to FH's spoken preference for more physicality. The 6'1" Wieffer has recently seemed a good solution to getting bullied down that side and if we are looking, you'd think that we'd be looking more at someone in his or Veltman's profile. He may be quick and good in the tackle, but he's not going to be the answer to the kind of ball over Tariq that Liverpool used to put us out of the EFL Cup.

He has the advantage of being a HGP, but I don't think we're really pressed in that area. We named a 22 man squad last year and, with a maximum of seventeen allowed, only named ten overseas players. I think that only Ayari, as he was born in 2004, and any new signings will need to be added to that list next season. Enciso was also born in 2004, However, as we signed him in June 2022, he has been registered with us (and Ipswich) for three seasons and may qualify as a HGP. This could have been why he was told that he could go on loan, but only to an English club. Whether he goes or stays, this would make him a more valuable asset.

Of course, he is out of contract at the end of this month and we are never shy of a bargain. However, Fulham and West Ham are also linked and I suspect either of them would offer higher wages. Fulham may be interested because Kenny Tete is also out of contract at the end of this month. They are discussing an extension with him. If I had the choice between the two, I'd hope we be more interested in Tete than KWP. Not because he's necessarily a better player, but more because he seems a better fit to our current need.
