So as it would appear FDM will be back between the sticks today, I'm curious to see what the reaction of all the Smith "Haters" would be if Michel was at fault for 4 goals going past him today?? Would it be as bad as the abuse that Smith has got, I wonder......

I fail to see how anyone can be too harsh on Smith, yes he's made one or two errors but for flips sake, look at the last line of defence in front of him, absolutely PATHETIC...

I love Kuipers and yes he should be number 1 but I think even he may concede a few with these clowns in front of him (Tunnicliffe excluded).

I keep reading the abuse he's getting and every game Ive been to in the last couple of weeks (Leeds, Norwich, Rushden) I hear a number of idiots calling for his head, the guy has a low level of confidence, after all the number of goals he's let in is insane, but such a small percentage of them were his fault

Course it wont be the same , even if he conceded 7. He's been a top keeper for most of his time here. Smith has been shit from day 1. Can't compare

Why Tunnicliffe excluded? he has been just as bad as anyone else.

At long last somebody without blinkers. He was a contributory factor in both goals against Charlton for not doing what he is in the team to do.

I would agree with both you and NF9. Tunnicliffe may not hoof it as much as "the other two" but he simply can't deal with long balls, for instance the Beckford goal the other week. He is poor at tracking back and for a big guy is quite weak and uneasy in the air.

Saying this I would play him and El-Abd at the moment as Virgo and Elphick just do not warrant a starting place due to recent performances. Tunnicliffe I am sure will stay at the club and will eventually be paired with a better and older center back that will make him look good, much like Butters and Elphick.

Do you fail to see all the reasoned critiques on his positioning, his command, his over eagerness to anticipate (frequently wrongly) his almost 50% of shots on target conceded?

I'm someone who, like you, feels smith needs to be given a chance behind a defence that doesn't cause him to second guess everything, that doesn't cause him to try to compensate for their mistakes or what he might expect to become a mistake and so on, but you can't look at results, stats, and even some of his performances and be surprised he has received some abuse.

I'm not suprised that he's got the abuse he has got, it just seems like the easy way to go to lay the blame on one player, it's something we as fans do to often, when was the last time we got fully behind the players and really appreciated when they put a shift in even if mistakes are made???
