The only way is to treat the crimes commited with a knife like those with a gun, it is a lethal weapon after all, assault with a knife down for life.

What a waste of police time amnestys are though, the type of person who would use a knife is the least likely to hand one in.

Also give police ten times more powers to search anybody they feel like, sod all that human rights toss, a random search policy with strict weapon possession laws

and also - heres where I get controversial - any kid found taking a knife to school will be jailed as well as their parents!! All this crap starts at home when kids are not taught proper rights wrongs and values!!

Totally agree.
I think there should be a mandartory (sp?) sentence on anyone carrying a knife. If you are stopped and searched, and you are found with a knife, jail sentence, end of. That might stop people carrying them to 'be hard'. If the risk of prison was high, it would stop 'casual' carriers. OK you wouldn't stop everyone carrying, but for every person that is put off owning one, the risk of a stabbing is reduced.

And to stop kids being banged up because they are too young, how about a sentence deffered until they are 18. So if a 15 year old is found with a knife he has 3 years to worry about being locked up. Then on his 18th birthday, he receives a very special present. (probably from some 18st black guy
:lolol: )

There's not much point increasing the jail term if you aren't going to enforce it. Stats on ITV news lastnight showed only 14% of those found carrying a weapon are jailed. That is the number that needs to increase not just the length of time spent in the clink.

Yes yes but the prisons are overcrowded and we can't squeeze them into the cells as that won't be comfy enough and they'll need to queue up in the morning for their en suite.

The only trouble I see with any knife law is how do you distinguish between someone carrying a knife and someone who has just bougth one and is taking it home.

My sister used to work as a chef at Launceston Place in Kensington and she used to take 40 knives home with her on the tube. I dread to think what sort of sentence she might have been given :(

In a way a knife is far more calculating and cold blooded than a gun. The knife should at least carry the same sentence as a gun.

Bin the knife, save a life!

Exactely there are lots of people who have to carry knives such as Grandads for opening stuff.

Chris Eubank carries a cut throat razor blade to trim his hair. We wouldn't want him to go to jail....on second thoughts....

I guess this is where the police will have to use their initiative.

I think the hoodie gives it away

Seriously there are legit reasons for carrying knives, as BoF points out Chefs obviously need to sometimes.... Thing is - its going to be fairly obvious if you get stopped with a knife wether you've got it for the right reason or wrong...Why can't the copper ask "What is the reason for you carrying this knife?" or is that another bloody minded PC brigade question we can't ask? WTF a school kid or a person on a Friday night out needs to carry a knife for is beyond me...

Anyone who carries is a total wanker. The police should be able to search anyone anytime and if you are carrying a knife they should cut your bollocks off there and then on the spot.
