Cool, I think the ice stadium complex got the green light several years ago, I must pop down to black rock and see how the builders are getting on!
City for the 21st century

:lolol: ..yeah I'm not holding my breath on this: there are too many NIMBYs and BANANAs about.

I reckon that the King Alfred will be developed about the same time as Falmer - perhaps in time for my retirement party.

I know what NIMBY stands for, but does BANANA stand for something that I'm not aware of???

Anyone care to enlighten me, if this is the case?

From the Argus website tonight

Green light for King Alfred
Controversial plans for a £300 million sports and housing complex on Hove seafront have been given the go-ahead.

...

Conservative councillors, angry with the decision, could ask the Government to call in the decision, putting the whole scheme under threat once again.

Here we go again...

Terrific news!!

The Black Rock Ice Arena detailed plans are to be submitted in the next month or so, I believe. So no builders there yet.

Gonna get crowded with all those developments down at the Marina

King Alfred - few thoughts:-

- On the whole, fantastic news.
- Will the reduction in housing on the site affect Karis' business case? If so, how will they off-set that? Hopefully not by cutting costs on the leisure facilities?
- Think the alternative site for the housing should be Falmer village :lolol:
- Hope they don't forget that housing is an "enabling" part of their design to support the leisure facilities. After all of this, the swimming pools etc better be bloody good.

A fantastic development, that Brighton could be very proud of.

http://www.brightonmarinafuture.co.uk/

Some much needed affordable properties.

I will wait to pass judgement on the tin can towers, when they have been built and when I have seen the impact on the area. Too late if negative, not that I could do anything about it!

I noticed it a couple of hours ago. I haven't heard anything about this at all. I can't quite make out where exactly the site is. Is it supposed to be part of the redevelopment of the Brighton Centre/Kingswest? Unusually I couldn't find anything about it on skyscrapercity.com which is usually pretty on the ball.

I also noticed that planning officers have recommended the i-360 for approval. It's rare for councillors to ignore the recommendations of planning officers so I expect this will be given full planning consent soon.

I hope you didnt plagerise that from somewhere else, because that my friend is a quality quote.

My only fear is that without the correct ratification of projects like this and the one at the Marina developers and architects with famous connections and worldwide status would over look our city.

Thanks, for the first bit.

About the second bit though, my fear is that we will eventually become the Monaco of the UK, and priced out of our own city by rising prices. We already have too many people flocking to Brighton for the amount of jobs available, and rents are way higher than wages so that disposable income is not easy to have around. Nowadays the employers are often paying more up north, while house prices are lower.
