Any NSC'ers had them? Can anyone give any information about them from their own experiences with them?
I have been suffering from intermittent lower right abdominal pains both at the front and back of my body for a good week now although I did get 2 days without any pains (yesterday and the day before) which was great but then it hit back big style this morning at 1am. A and E thought it was just an infection and prescribed me antibiotics, the Dr isn't totally sure what it is although suggests it may be kidney stones.
Anyway I shall stop blabbing on and just ask you good folk for any info/help!

Are you male?

Men just don't get urine infections without good reason whereas ladies do (due to length of urethra and such). Kidney stones can be very very painful - cramping types pains.

First step is to make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

It hurst like f*ck and is the nearest thing a man can get to the pain women have when they go into labour! I had some in 1998 during the world cup, I've never been in so much pain. Pethadin was administered and it still hurt like f*ck but I didn't care about it!! I eventually pissed it out 1 big bit and the rest came out as dust as it had broken down en route through my tubes. Really big ones have to be lasered and broken down, unless you have a massive c0ck and you can piss out pebbles!

Fin.

Not had them but from all accounts you have to drink as much water as you can handle regularly...

Had gallstones last year and the pain is similar apparently!

Good luck

I have them, imagine someone pulling ur balls down to your kness attaching a pinapple before ramming up ur arse, thats how it hurts
Weird thing is with stones one minute your okay then on floor being vomiting with pain then fine again, so yes it does come and go.
Best prevention is drink loads and I mean loads of water they tend to form and get stuck (which causes the renal colic) when you are dehydrated, drinking alot can also move the stone hence stopping the pain

If your worried dont be pop to Hospital they scan and if it hurts give you morphine, if stone is small they will give you pills to help pass if very large they will ultra sound to break up so easier to pass, either way they will come out exactly where you dont want them to

Thanks for all your input. What was the time frame from getting the first bunch of pains to passing the stones? I've heard between 7-10 days and up to 4 weeks, I'm hoping its not the latter coz I really don't wanna go through another few weeks of these pains!

Sometimes you dont, I still have stones that ruined my week about a year ago, probably just still floating about, if you get renal colic not much can be done if they wont come out, just morphine and pain killer sapositries

That doesn't sound good.
You wont they are there only when they get stuck, Have you seen one? google it,one of the ones I passed was like an amber cystal and jagged, realy cool if you didnt know what it was lol
The other upside is the morphine is good lol

My dad had one and he said it's the most painful thing he has ever had and the doctors told him that people who have had a heart attack as well as a kidneys stone said the kidney stone hurt more. And apparently you should avoid salt.

All you can do is pass them naturally, if they are too big you get them lasered i think so they crumble and then you pass them....

there are numerous foods and drinks which produce the protein that causes kidney stones, so get hold of the list so at least you can minimize the damage.

But plenty of water is where you start. If you drink lots of tea, you will need to cut down, rhubarb, chocolate and peanuts i think are a few others of the top of my head.

My wife had stones when she was a teenager and then again a right big bugger last year. Local docs proposed a long and uncomfortable process of having stents fitted and having the stone blasted so that you effectively pass the bits (this can be very painful). Anyways, Mother in law read about the 'stones centre' at Guys hospital and our GP referred her their. They were totally brilliant and removed the stone - which was the size of a large olive! - by keyhole surgery. The surgeons name was Mr Glass and he was terrific.

The other suggestion is to reduce your sodium intake as I have been advised by Drs as this can be a contributing factor to kidney stones.

As some stones move you can get blood in your urine, this has happened a few times to me. An extremely painful experience and this can take a few days to pass. A hot bath can help with the pain.

At the end of the day we are all different and sometimes kidney stones can be secondary condition. In my case I had a full colectomy and if I don't drink enough or have to much salt in my diet can cause me kidney stones. :(

I hope this helps
