Disappointed to see that Mayo has let himself go over the summer, he looks woefully out of shape at the moment with that tyre round his waist.

1) How can a pro footballer let this happen, surely it's their job to stay in shape, I mean I work 12 hours in an office everyday yet I look after myself, why can't a paid footballer do the same, especially when their livelihood depends on it (same applies to Butters, sorry Race)

2) How can the training staff let this happen? I suppose it shows the direction that the club is going when a few players a looking a bit worse-for-wear.

Yeah, what's going on with that hair (or lack of it) as well?

Sorry but what exactly applies to him?

How can dwayne post such idiotic posts? How can he have let his brain go into such meltdown. Surly somebody in his office has noticed he is a TW&T?

I'm not sure the original sentiment is idiotic.

It's true!

From my perspective MM had an excellent regime of fitness for the players.

This included special diets where necessary and meticulous recording of fitness levels.

Its one of the things he did very well.

Yes he did, in which no doubt he was assisted by the coaches and club physio, all of whom are still there.

Do you think they ripped it all up and threw it away the minute he left?

I haven't noticed any problems with players' weight, fitness or effort this season. Our problem has been the quality of our passing and our movement. Anybody who thinks otherwise either hasn't been at the games, or has little understanding of the game.

If any of you think that we lost at Yeovil becuase Mayo is carrying a couple of pounds, or becasue of fitness levels, then please correct me.

PS. I was not at Carlisle, where it has been suggested we were sluggish.

Dont be so touchy:wave:

By praising MM I was not denigrating DW.
I think DW is a saint.

No. He's wrong.

Carpenter is getting on and he can't cover the ground he once did. That doesn't make him fat.

Carpenter can still perform a useful role this season, but he needs to adapt his play and sit deeper, and use the ball better. Hammond, Cox and Frutos can do the running for him.

Except Frutos seems to be struggling a bit this year. To me, he doesn't seem to have that pace to go past people as he had last year...Perhaps lack of Match fitness at start of season?

I'm not convinced that Mayo is overweight - or at least over his correct "flighting" weight.

I do know that Malcom Stuart weighs all players regularly and if they go over their target weight they get fined. This has been in existence for a long time and transcends any change in management.

Of course, with skinnies like Lynch, Coz, Robinson, Loft, Frutos in the side, other players are bound to look bigger by comparison.

Mayo did get outpaced by Wayne Gray for the second Yeovil goal on Tuesday (in a 25yd sprint he lost out by about a yard)

However, from memory when Wayne Gray was on loan he, he was a former 100m sprint champion as an under-18, before choosing football rather than athetics.

So I wouldn't put that particular 'race' down to a lack of condition.

And Butts is, well Butts. Two years ago I checked the Rothmans and he was the heaviest outfield player in the entire football league - and only around 1/2 dozen goalkeepers outweighted him!

however, he won Player of the Season that year so again - where's the correlation between weight and ability?

I remember reading an article about Kerry that said he had an extraordinarily slow metabolism and piles on weight easily, even if eating less unhealthy foods than his team-mates.

I think he probably spends more time in the gym and doing exercise than you spend hob-nobbing with 'celebs' in the ivy.
