Kerry Mayo

The Ginger Prince had a truely awful game today, he looks overweight, he gets skinned every time someone runs at him and his distribution is terrible.

The first job of the new manager should be to get Kerry off the pies and start playing like we know he is capable of.

I agree.

Bring back Kerry Mayo.:jester:

Mayo was well skinned for stockports goal. His distribution and positional sense have gone to pot. Mickey adams dropped him for several games two years ago and he came back a reformed player. (And several pounds lighter) Looks like it's kick up the arse time again for kerry?......

In fairness to Mayo, for their goal he once again had half of the pitch to cover 'cos that tosser Jones went MIA again. He got a challenge in but the guy got the ball back and who was our next line of defence? Butters:eek:

A good cross was put in and none of our lot got anywhere close to it.

I can't see how Mayo keeps being singled out? Rehman was f***ing useless, and has been for three games but he gets left alone. Jones shouldn't even have been on the bench today. Mayo works his butt off-granted sometimes he gets skinned but at least he's trying, unlike some of his team-mates.

Whoever comes in needs to send Rehman back. I'd rather see one our youngsters in fighting for a contract in preference to somebody who doesn't care. If we had some steel in midfield Mayo wouldn't be so frigging knackered and continually over-run.

I said when Wilkinson came on that when other teams bring subs on, they look like footballers! Ours look like young kids and Piercy ( who I think is worse than Jones and Jones is f***ing awful)

I am convinced that this is it now until Falmer is built in the next 60 years. we have no money and judging by the fact that Coppell couldn't get anyone down here on loan he wanted, we have to put up with this shit.

Lets face it, we havn't played well this year yet are up at the top. This division is very strange

We aren't playing at all well that is true but we have Rushden away for a start.

I feel very sorry for the players at the moment, having lost SC they need direction and clearly this wasn't coming from Bob Booker.

As I said after Brentford - appoint a manager and I suspect commitment etc will improve 100%.

I have to agree, Kerry gets no cover from Jones and is always having to cover 25% of the pitch. At least he's trying which is more than can be said for the midfield.
How Jones and Rehman were selected today after the the last two games beggers belief - was BB frightened to upset them.

Jones has been crap virtually all season (apart from that moment of magic with the flick from his back foot).

McPhee played well again, and I thought we looked livelier when Wilkinson came on.

The midfield has been pretty crap all season so far. I haven't seen Rehman play well (although from the commentary on SCR, he played very well against Rushden).

I had not been impressed with Watson last season, nor this up until he got injured, but I thought he played well today and was involved with good link up play with Harty.

We lack creativity in the center of the park. Chippy just does not look up to it. I would bring Hammond in and give him a go.

God - I'm just pissed off with the performance. We didn't deserve to lose (or should I say, they didn't deserve to win), but I suppose we are still 2nd even though we haven't exactly been playing well this season.

With respect to those of you rightly saying hre had to cover for Jones, it still must be said that anyone who has played full back at a half decent level will know that he should have made the tackle that led to their goal.

Jones was poor, but, alas, (and this is sad to say) he is our only attacking outlet from midfield. Rehman should be sent back - he seems to look classy when we're a goal up, but, when we're losing, he hides, putting even more pressure on Carpenter. Consequently, we're getting swamped in midfield.

As for the topic subject, Mayo has been exceptionally poor. Yes, he tries his heart out, loyal player, been with us since the bad old days etc etc but he's simply not good enough. When he doesn't have to think for himself, ie go in for fifty-fifties / make instinctive tackles / clearances, he's solid, but, when he has the ball at his feet, and given time to think, he proves he cant do just that - think. His passes seem to go astray more than Stuart Munday's, and i'm not making that comparison for comedy purposes. It's just poor decision taking / poor passing every time. Then we have to go about the task of winning the ball back. It may be that he's been trained to miss out our midfield completely whenever he 'passes'the ball, but it simply doesn't work. In the first half today he even got dummied by the corner flag.

But, we must be positive. I think this stale patch is purely as a result of the uncertainty within the camp. I don't think it serves to illustrate how great a manager Coppell was,or how poor a caretaker Booker is. The sooner it is resolved, the sooner team commitment and interest will improve, and consequently, performances and results will improve.

Today, Cullip looked to be back on form following Brentford, and McPhee seems to be going from strength to strength. It's nice for us to have players coming through the youth ranks who actually look useful. His control with the outside of his left foot when he brought the ball down whilst on the left wing in the second half was perfect, and his half volley which brought a fine, although comfortable save from their keeper, was technically excellent. Plus, unlike Knight, who seemed absolutely disinterested today, he was able to hold up the ball.

Keep the faith

It was a basic error by Mayo but these things happen in footie.

But he is left to cover large areas at times.

I support them every game and let off steam on here-never at the game. What do you suggest? We all sit around praising them for a game like today's? Or as at Brentford? Or as at Bournemouth when over 6000 people at each game know otherwise?

If you want to play ostrich and believe all's well after these last three defeats then go ahead. I personally feel quite comfortable in saying we are crap at the moment-simply because we are and I don't need the likes of you telling me to hang my head in shame because I dare to criticise three consecutive shit performances.

I'd like to stick up for Jones on this occasion.
I started the "Mayo and Jones comedy show" thread last week and we all laid most of the blame at Jones' feet but he admitted this week he was dissapointed with his performances and I thought he played better today. In the first half he looked very lively and caused a lot of problems.
On the other hand Mayo had another mare of a game - dreadful distribution and slow, sluggish defending. The opposition again spotted him as our weak link at the back and he was getting skinned by their players.
I say the goal was his fault and Jones can hardly be blamed for Mayo not doing the most basic function of a left-back.
Agree with earlier poster and as I stated last week put Hinsh on the right and Watto on the left
