Exactly
And that is precisely what we did.

But the truth is it’s not an invented name such as havapoo, it’s a cross breed mutt, often the best if you ask me, but the cost of the Heinz dogs is extreme.

My Rosie hasn't had kennel cough, but do yourself a favour, keep them away from other dogs. There are so many different strains of KC, but all are virilant and you don't want to be spreading it around. Best bet is the vets, get them checked, peace of mind and all that.

We've got a Cockapoo - amazing dogs

I don't get all this pompous Kennel Club snobbery.

If you get a dog that is happy, friendly, good with your children and provides you with years of happy companionship, who gives a shit about the family tree?

You do need to do some work with the reputation and background of the breeder though.

Me either, but the cost of registering a dog with the KC, and the cost of a KC registered Stud dog from a good line is part of the justification for the cost of the puppies, letting any old Poodle slip your Spaniel a length, and asking similar money for the cross breed pup is taking the piss I think.

I can't be bothered to say at the moment where and how I purchased our Cavapoo, how I saw the parents beforehand twice, asked all the questions and double checked everything.
And they are anti allergenic, it's one of the reasons we got one, both me and the missus are allergic to a lot of animals especially cats and horses and some dogs, with our dog we have had no problems at all.
And I take her to work with me, they hate being alone.
Outside of the politics threads I have never read such a load of old bollox in my life.
They are often used in old folks homes as company dogs and reading dogs for kids with problems as they just lie there with anyone as if they are listening, they are ultra friendly.
Shit dogs they are not.

And I said wasn’t talking about you! ???

My lurcher had kennel cough earlier in the year. I naively thought she would of been covered by her annual jab but it turned out I needed to specifically ask for the treatment (squirt of liquid up the nostril). I had to try and keep her away from other dogs for 2 weeks and they just said give her metacam. Hope they are soon feeling better.

Thank you, I'll give it a try. The little one, Ernie seems to have it the worst. Poor thing woke me this morning with his coughing, other than that he just wants to play.

I had them looked at, advice was just to ride it through, keep them comfortable etc. As you say once they have it that's it, they have it and there's nothing to be done. I also thought they'd be covered when they got all their jabs, I was wrong but even if they'd been done there are no guarantees as as mentioned there are so many strains much like our colds and flus.
The whole hypo allergenic thing is a bit hit and miss I think. Ernie was apparently rejected by the family that initially bought him as the daughter had a reaction to him. They'd bought him believing him to be safe to have. They don't moat hair which is great, after having a Cocker Spaniel who's hair I am still finding after 18 months I thank my lucky stars for that.

Thank you all for your input, it's always varied if nothing else on NSC!

Aye, I think the squirt up the nose covers something like 10% of KC strains at best, yet some Boarding Kennels still insist on it. I get it, but it's a pain the the bum. Wish you luck riding it out guess its similar to humans, keep them fed and hydrated and time will heal.

Agreed, which is why you do your research and get the dog from a reputable breeder that has bucket-loads of great feedback.
