Been given three months notice .... feel quite elated as it forces my hand to launch my own business, which I have been mulling over and planning for the last year or three!!!

Also given option by employers to work until end of this month and be paid up to 31 December!!!

Need to discipline myself to get business preparations underway immediately.

So if anyone wants any specialised writing or magazine/newspaper/newsletter design doing, please get in touch!!!

I am skilled at Quark Xpress and Adobe Photoshop and have experience in writing, design and production of corporate brochures and newsletters, political party newspapers, football club programmes, community newspapers, annual reports etc etc Can sub contract to print firm or deliver back for you own printers.

Please tell me its the Windows, IRIX or OS/2 versions of Quark and Photoshop and not the Hackintosh ones...

Are you happy about this or annoyed?

Windows!!!

Yes I think I am quite happy. Bit of trepidation, but having been seriously considering/planning my own business for sometime and this forces my hand somewhat.
Also good to have the three month cushion.

Just need to get the logistics sorted.

I have been made redundent from a couple of design agencies and it's a pain in the arse!! I am presenting trying to kick-start my career back off.

I am also skilled with Quark, Photoshop and a bit of Illustrator (both PC and Mac).

Great. Nice to see a designery-type person NOT being brainwashed into using Apple's overpriced shite.

Also with a half decent PC and Windows you have greater memory and speed options than Apple Macs

True. The only reason for a designer to go for a Mac is the fancy case design.

Before anyone tries the "G5 can do more RAM" thing, remember that a P4 can adress as much RAM as a G5, as a P4 has a 64 bit memory adress space anyway....

Tis true!

Would have been worth a shot. How long have you been in the industry?

Started out in 1985 in magazine journalism then moved into newspapers in 1989. Reporting, subbing, back bench design, editing, new product launch design and commissioning. Last three years in the private/corporate sector doing specialised writing and design. I am very much publication design and AM NOT a graphic artist nor have any poster/website orpresentation type design skills.

Well, I started in 1999 as a Junior Designer for Bridgewater Books, then moved into the Mac Dept where I found my forte. Ever since then, that is where I want to be. Unfortunately, a major client decided to go-under therefore unable to pay it's bill resulting in my redundency from there.

Eventer Design was another agency I was with, again, in the Mac Dept. In total I was there for a combined time of three years both contract and freelance. Yet again I was made redundent due to yet another major client moving in-house.

Ahh yes, but a P4 only runs at 250mhz bsi and doesn't have an integrated ROMcard emulator which can handle 150 bitmaps per second. It also doesn't have EX/pro-logic composite 24 bit WMA (compatible with Windows 2000), nor an 8 gig regulated alternator with Intel Pentium hard drive storage.

Or something.

It's almost worth pretending that I know that Macs are better in some way, just to provoke MYOB :)

But IE is the best browser, in the end, isn't it?

Good luck with the business plan OTLW!
